Hacker Games Klaipėda 2017

We are very proud of our Lead Developer Arvydas Burdulis who is always eager to mentor at the events. This time, Arvydas went to Klaipėda and helped the teams develop their ideas at Hacker Games.

Hacker Games: Vilnius 2017

Last weekend, a 48-hour hackathon for game, software and hardware enthusiasts took place in Vilnius, Lithuania.

We are very proud of TutoTOONS CTO Arvydas Burdulis who supervised and mentored the most popular Games track with 12 projects (out of 24).

Also, we can’t get enough of our team member Deividas Baumilas ideas at the hackathons. Last time his team created a stop motion game. Now he decided to revive his SkyRider game - a free-time project created in 2012.

Mentoring at Hacker Games Kaunas 2017

Born in a hackathon, TutoTOONS now helps others execute their ideas or encourage to start your own business.

Our Creative Director Modestas Povilaitis and CTO Arvydas Burdulis (working together since 2008!) joined Hacker Games in Kaunas as mentors and shared their knowledge with young talents, all ready to build killer products from scratch over the weekend.

TutoTOONS also set up a prize for the best kids game that went to team Focus with a 2D game for autistic children. Read about the event in Startup Lithuania’s article and view more photos here. Congratulations to all winners and many thanks to the hosts!

TutoTOONS: A Success Story That Started at a Hackathon

With Hacker Games coming to Kaunas, Startup Lithuania shared the short story how TutoTOONS was born during a hackathon in Barcelona.

Startup Lithuania is an organization building startup community and getting together international investors, mentors, accelerators and creative minds.

So, something I've seen a lot in RP between hackers and their prey is a lack of fun roleplay where the hacker has to actually try. Most of the time, it's just accepted that the hacker gets their information. Look, even the best hackers get over confidant, and sometimes get bored... Why don't we make it a game? It's more fun, and there are lots of wonderful variables that make a difference in a hackers job.

Begin: Abacus's favorite game! -- Hacking the Data Source!

Goal: The Hacker must work their way through the system to start hacking and gathering information.

How to play: The hacker must work their way through the lockout gates first and foremost before they can start downloading data. Each player rolls (( Yes out of 100)). If the Hacker wins, they pass a lockout gate. If the other person wins, everyone emotes and tries again.

If you roll a natural 100 as a hacker, you pass 2 gates automatically. If you have a critical failure (( 10 or below )) you are found out!

In this game the victim is only rolling to prevent the hacker from getting through. There is no real way to stop the lockout gates except for waiting out to see if they critically fail. (( Honestly, if you are a non-tech savvy person you wouldn't even know what to do... However passing it to a hacker friend, and suddenly the game changes! See below ))

Levels of Skill   Defender's level of protection / Aggressor's max saves

Gullible Shmuck: 1 lockout gate / 0 re-roll

Semi-Comp Savy: 3 lockout gates / 2 re-rolls

Technology fan: 5 lockout gates/ 4 re-rolls

Hacker: 7 lockout gates / 6 re-rolls

Blackhoods/ICI informant: 10 lockout gates / 10 re-rolls

As you can see, it is very easy for a person to get past every single lockout through a re-roll except the last one. The only exceptions are the Blackhoods/ICI trained folks. These are the BEST of the best, so we need to actually acknowledge this. I don't care that you are a master hacker, attacking the BH or ICI system or even their basic equipment is a big deal. You are not just going to magically wipe their systems without any effort... Don't be silly.

Once you make it past the lockout gates, the Defender must give up a new bit of information based around the information being searched. Information being hacked cannot be randomly changed or the goal shifted once within the system. If you want to find something else in the encrypted system you need to go through the process again with new lockouts and re-rolls.
