An undercover investigation by housing charity Shelter has found routine discrimination by letting agents against tenants on housing benefit, with national chain Haart named as the “worst offender”.

Working with the National Housing Federation, Shelter researchers called 149 letting branches around the UK, and found that one in 10 had a blanket ban rejecting any applicants on housing benefit.

“The worst offender out of the big brands investigated was Haart, with an outright ban in a third of the branches called,” Shelter said.

“I’m officially declining my HAART regimen until Nurit Shein resigns as CEO. Nurit Shein has been allowed to continue power abuse and intimidation as allegations are unfolding about her knowledge of sexual misconduct by Dr. Winn. Nurit has constantly denied institutional racism within Mazzoni Center and perpetuated a culture that targeted Black and Brown staff. I will decline my life-saving medication until she steps away from Mazzoni. I do this in solidarity with the victims of Robert Winn. I do this for all the poz patients he harmed. I do this for the Black and Brown former and current employees who are traumatized. I do this for former staff who took their life because of the violence they experienced at the hands of the leadership of Mazzoni Center. I do this for the countless times transphobia was perpetuated by Nurit. I will begin this on Friday April 21st.” 

we stand with him because access to safe and affirming treatment, especially those of us living with HIV, is a human right. mazzoni center as agency has failed in ensuring the safety of patients and staff.

this past thursday (april 20th), morn than 60 mazzoni center staff walked out in protest demanding that nurit shein resign.

the mazzoni center board of directors continues to stand by the agency’s CEO nurit shein. even after more than 60 staff members walked out in protest after an all-staff meeting. anthony leon, who is co-creator of gran varones, and current mazzoni staff member has been publicly vocal about his demand that nurit shein resign. 

yesterday, the mazzoni center board of directors released a statement to the press reinforcing their confidence in nurit shein and to state that she will not be resigning. in their statement, the board also mentions that they will be meeting with staff in “small groups” to address this issue. this is intimidation! it is clear that the board’s commitment is not that of the safety of mazzoni patients and front-line staff. their commitment clearly lies with protecting nurit shein. 

so our comrade, adbul-aliy is putting himself and his health on the line because mazzoni center continues to put the health of it’s patients on the line. we stand with abdul-aliy. 

so today is day two of abdul-aliy’s #DecliningHAART protest in solidarity with mazzoni center patients and front-line staff.
