A sequence of daydreams play in Sungjun’s head. in these daydreams Gyujin is healthy and chubby, smiles all the time and does not have bags under his eyes. He’s not making pastries for a living, but when he wants to.
In these daydreams they travel together, lie on the green grass next to each other, watch movies together, take creative wedding photos, and under a gate of flowers in front of family and friends, make moving speeches, put rings on each other’s hand and promise to take care of each other forever, and then raise a family together and keep this promise.
The daydreams appeared in his head the first time probably across the table at the library when they were studying together, or across the dining hall table when they were eating together, or at night when they were in their respective beds chatting till their eyelids were heavy and shut down when they’re not aware, or in one of those nights when they’re lying next to each other on the hill behind the school, pointing at constellations and talking about everything in the world, and they play and replay, at first happy, then with the arrival of Changhyun, began to hurt, then started hurting more and more.
They continued to appear once in a while even after Gyujin and Changhyun’s wedding, less frequent but excruciating each time they do, coming back at the most random time, like when he passes by someone pushing a baby stroller on the pavement, or when he passes by a nice bakery, or when he’s laughing at one of Sooil’s jokes, then he would suddenly stop and the mood would drop to the ground. It’s like unfair dominoes.
But alas this is life and it just so happened this way.
