Gwent Week: Day 3: Festivities
Do I care that Gwent week and Halloween are over? NOPE!
Trent looked around the dimly lit room anxiously. How had he allowed himself to be convinced to do this? This wasn't something he enjoyed doing at all! He yelped as Trent felt something brush his leg, and then jumped about two feet into the air when he felt something prod his back. He spun around wildly, trying to see or hear what was in the dark room, but all he could make out was creaking of the wooden planks beneath his feet. Trent couldn't see any other humans in the room, all he could make out was cobwebs hanging in different corners of the room. Trent decided to give up trying to find whatever else was in this room. He started to walk out of the room quickly, really all he wanted to was get the hell out of this awful place! Trent really hated haunted houses.
It hadn't been Trent's idea to go a haunted house, it had been Duncan's, of course Geoff thought it would be fun, so he backed Duncan up, and the promise of food was all it took to convince Owen to come as well. Trent really had no interest in coming along, but Duncan had been insistent, and in the end, Trent caved. Duncan had promised that the four boys would stick together, but somewhere along the way, after being jump scared for the umpteenth time, Trent found himself alone. Trent knew he couldn't blame the guys completely, it was hard to see in this place. They probably didn't notice that Trent wasn't with them at first, and once they had realized it, Trent had already been separated from them, and so, Trent was all on his own in a haunted house. This was not the way Trent had wanted to spend his Halloween.
Trent continued going from one room to the next, trying desperately to find the nearest exit, he knew Duncan would probably tease him for not completing the haunted house, but at this point, Trent really didn't care. As Trent entered another room, he looked around, it was a very cave-like room, he could make out silhouettes of bats hanging upside down from the ceiling. As Trent was taking in his surroundings, he didn't notice a figure creeping up behind him, the creature had snow-white skin, red eyes, and a pair of pointed fangs coming out of her mouth. It moved slowly and silently towards Trent. Trent suddenly became aware of a strange sound coming from behind him, it was cat-like... It took a moment for the sound to click in Trent's brain. The hairs on Trent's back rose. Was that... Hissing? Trent slowly turned around, the fear in him rising, and sure enough when he fully turned, he was face to face with a vampire. The vampire let out a vicious hiss, and Trent screamed. Trent took off, trying to put as much space between him and the vampire as possible. He kept running until he realized he had hit a dead end, he whipped around, hoping he still had a chance to run, but he was once again face to face with the vampire. Trent screamed once more and ducked into the corner, putting his hands up to shield himself. Please don't kill me.
For what felt like forever, Trent just sat in that corner, quivering in terror, until a voice broke him out of his thoughts. "Um, hey, are you ok?" Trent slowly lowered his hands and looked up at the vampire. She was looking down him, frowning, and she was holding something in her hand: A pair of fangs, plastic ones. Trent felt himself reddening with embarrassment. This is why I don't like haunted houses! "Uh, yeah." Trent chuckled nervously, as he pulled himself to his feet. "Are you sure?" The vampire asked him, the mix of concern and uncertainty clear in her eyes. "Yeah, I just... Um..." Trent rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "You do know you don't have to finish the haunted house if you don't want to, right? I could get you out of here, if you wanted me to." The vampire continued. "Really? You'd do that?" Trent asked, he could feel the relief washing over him. The vampire nodded. "Yeah, sure. Just follow me. My shift is over anyway." With that, Trent followed the vampire through a camouflaged door at the back of the room.
As they were walking, Trent realized it was very quiet, and Trent had never been a big fan of long silences, so he decided to strike up a conversation. "So, I never got your name." Trent said. "Huh? Oh, it's Gwen. You?" "Trent." Gwen nodded. "How did you end up in a haunted house, Trent? No offense, but from what I saw back there, you're not made for this sort of activity." Trent just smiled. "None taken, and you're right, I'm not." "So...?" Gwen let her question trail off, and she looked Trent with an eyebrow raised curiously. "My friends insisted on coming here, and they insisted on me coming too. I lost them back in the haunted house." Trent explained. As they were walking, Trent couldn't help but observe Gwen's appearance. Gwen has snow-white skin, she was a head shorter than Trent, she also had a black and red full-length dress on, she had red eye contacts on, and a long black wig on. Trent wondered what her actual eye colour was, and what her hair actually looked like. Trent's thoughts were interrupted when they came to a door that read EMPLOYEES ONLY. "Ah, here we are." Gwen said. "Is this the room that you're going to bring me into so you can bite me in peace?" Trent asked jokingly. Then he realized exactly what he had just said. Then he felt his cheeks heat up. "Er- I mean-" Gwen looked at him with a single raised eyebrow, then a smirk spread across her face. "That depends, do you want me to?" Gwen asked with an evil grin. Trent wasn't sure how Gwen would respond to his joke, but whatever he was expecting, it certainly wasn't that. Trent's jaw dropped, and his face was bright red at this point. Trent had no idea what to say, and thankfully, he didn't get a chance to say anything before Gwen started laughing. "I'm just messing with you." Gwen said, while patting Trent on the shoulder reassuringly. Then she swiftly produced a key from her dress pocket. Gwen jerked her head towards the door. "I'm going to head in there for a moment. You wait here, I'll be right back, ok?" Trent nodded, he watched as Gwen stuck her key into the door, and headed inside. Trent waited inside, while he mentally kicked himself. Who says something like that to someone they just met?
Eventually, Gwen returned, and she had changed out of her vampire costume. Trent noted her charcoal-coloured eyes and black-and-teal-streaked hair. "Alright, let's get you out of here." Gwen said. Trent nodded in agreement, and started following Gwen. "It seems like you know this place like the back of your hand." Trent pointed out, as he watched Gwen walk quickly and confidently through the narrow passages. "I'd ought, seeing as I work here every year." Gwen said, without looking back at Trent. "Wow, you do this every year? You must love scaring people." "Only if it's people who actually want to be scared. I'm not trying to actually traumatize anyone." A thought suddenly came to Trent. "Wait, are you allowed to do what you did for me? You're not going to get fired for this, are you?" Trent asked, as worry and guilt started to fill him "Oh no, don't worry about me." Gwen smiled reassuringly at Trent. "We're supposed to help people who are clearly not enjoying themselves. Besides, like I told you, my shift was ending anyway." Gwen said simply. "Oh, good." Trent said with a sigh of relief. "Why did you let your friends peer-pressure you into coming to this thing?" Gwen asked suddenly. "They didn't peer-pressure me." Trent said, a bit defensively. "Sure, they were insistent, but it was my decision in the end. I knew what I was getting into. Besides, we need to be in this area tonight anyway." Gwen raised her eyebrow curiously at that. "Why?" "Oh, we're throwing a concert in the graveyard behind this haunted house tonight." Trent explained nonchalantly. Gwen immediately stopped in her tracks, and Trent nearly ran into her. "I'm sorry, you're what?" Gwen asked, as she turned to Trent, her eyes wide. Trent rubbed the back of his neck. "Did I forget to mention that me and my three other friends are in a band?" "Uh, yeah. You did." Gwen said. "Well, we do. It's called Final Event." Trent said. Gwen smiled. "Cool." She said, before she turned and started walking again.
Finally, they came to a door. "Aha!" Gwen exclaimed, she went over and pushed the door open. "You're officially home free, Trent." Gwen said, as she held the door open for Trent. Trent grinned as he stepped into the front garden of the haunted house. "Thanks Gwen, for everything." Trent said. "No problem, happy help." Trent was about to say something else, before he got interrupted. "TRENT!" Then Trent suddenly found himself in a bone-crushing bear hug. "I was so worried!" Owen practically shouted into Trent's ear. "Owen..." Trent gasped out. "Can't breathe... Need air..." Another voice spoke up. "Let him breath, big guy." "Oh, right. Sorry." Owen said apologetically, as he set Trent back down. As Trent started breathing, he looked over at Duncan. "Thanks, man." Trent muttered. "No problem." Another voice joined them. "Trent, dude, there you are! Where have you been?" Geoff asked, as he came over and thumped Trent on the back. "Sorry for keeping you guys. I got lost in the haunted house." Trent explained. "We figured that was what happened." Duncan said. "Yeah, sorry man, we didn't realize you had disappeared at first." Geoff said, looking slightly guilty. Trent waved him off. "It's cool. Luckily, I got some help from a friend." Trent said, as he gestured towards Gwen. "Guys, this is Gwen. Gwen, these are my buds, Duncan, Geoff, and Owen." Trent said. Trent watched as Duncan looked at Gwen, then back to Trent, and then back to Gwen again. Then he watched as a smirk spread across Duncan's face. Duncan made is way towards Gwen, he took her hand and shook it. "A friend, huh? Always nice to meet a friend of Trent's." Duncan said. Trent could practically hear Duncan's air quotes. Trent looked back at his other two friends, and both of them were smirking the exact same way Duncan was. "Hey, did you know we're going to performing a live concert in the graveyard at the back of this haunted house?" Duncan asked Gwen casually. "I did." Gwen said. "Nice, are you going to come?" Duncan asked. "Well seeing as I literally just learned about it a few minutes ago. No, I'm not." Gwen said. "It was nice to meet you guys, but I'm pretty hungry, so I'm going to go grab some food." Gwen said, as she gestured to the tables filled with all sorts of food behind her. "You go do that; you've earned it." Trent said as he waved to her. Gwen waved back, she then turned and headed towards the tables.
Duncan gave Trent a look of disbelief. "What the heck was that?" Duncan demanded. "What do you mean?" Trent asked. "Don't act stupid. Go invite Gwen to the concert." "What? No way!" Trent protested. "Why not?" Geoff asked, the confusion in his voice very clear. "Because- Because-" Trent spluttered, as he desperately thought of an answer. "Because I just met her tonight." Trent said quickly. "So? I'm not asking you to marry her, I'm just saying that to you should ask her out." Duncan said. Trent tried to speak up, but Geoff cut him off. "You don't even have to ask her to be your girlfriend. Just invite her to the concert, and ask her to stay after it. Then you guys can hang out get to know each other better." "But-" This time it was Owen who cut Trent off. "What have you got to lose?" "Well..." Trent went silent. He looked over at the concession table, where Gwen was currently eating a hotdog. Duncan sighed. "Do you like her?" Duncan asked. Trent blinked in confusion. "What do you-" "Do. You. Like. Her." Duncan repeated impatiently. Trent looked over at Gwen once more. "Well, yeah." "Do you think she's hot?" Trent immediately blushed. Duncan smirked. "I think that answers my question. So, like Owen said, what have you got to lose?" Trent went silent as he thought it over. Then he took a deep breath. "Alright, I'll go ask her." Trent said with a smile. "Atta boy." Duncan said proudly. "Go get 'em, tiger!" Owen whooped.
Trent made his way over to where Gwen was still eating. "Hey." Trent said as he came up to her. "Oh, hey." Gwen greeted him. Then she smiled. "Missed me already?" Gwen asked teasingly. Trent chuckled. "Listen, I wanted to ask you something." "Yeah?" Gwen asked, and she gave Trent a curious look. "Would you want to go to the concert? I could get you in." Trent offered. Gwen's eyes widened. "You'd do that for me?" Gwen asked. "Yeah, I owe you one. It's also because... I was hoping that you and I could hang out after the concert?" Trent asked quickly, due to his nerves acting up. Gwen had a look of pure surprise of her face. She was quiet for a few minutes. Oh crap, she's going to say no! I should have never listened to Duncan. "Er, forget that last part-" "Yeah." "-It was a stupid thing to- Wait, what?" Gwen gave him a big smile. "Yes." She repeated. Trent grinned. "Alright, cool! I'll see you later then." Trent said, and he turned to go back to his friends, but Gwen spoke again. "Wait, there's one thing I need to know." Trent turned back around. "What?" He asked. "How do I know this isn't some trick get me alone in a graveyard so you can bite me?" Trent chuckled, recalling what he had said earlier. "That depends, do you want me to?" Trent shot back. Gwen grinned. "You know, it honestly sounds quite tempting. I might take you up on that offer."
