You know what’s really hard? Writing. . I’m still in revisions. I’m still trying to get back into a schedule. I’m still learning how to prioritize writing again. I’m also not wasting energy on excuses or regrets. If I don’t meet my writing goal for the day, I acknowledge it and try better the next day. It’s not easy breaking the habit of being hard on one’s self for not meeting expectations, but I’m also so done with feeling sorry about my manuscript too. . I just started The Emotional Craft of Fiction and so far it’s really good. Like wow, I really needed this for this round of final revisions! . How are you? What are you working on? When I couldn’t focus on my manuscript or reading anymore, I thought I was failing and letting down a lot of people. I was also scared that my creativity left me. I had been writing and revising for seven months with few breaks and no self care. I couldn’t keep up the pace anymore and I worried that I had lost my motivation. It took a long time for me to recognize that my break wasn’t a failure. . Big Magic has found me at exactly the right time when I needed it. When you’re used to working, it’s hard not working especially when it’s a forced break. But I knew I needed it. I’m just so glad that this wasn’t a mark of failure and it’s actually part of what Gilbert calls creative living. . I hope you all don’t mind me going on about this book because I do plan on talking about it more! It’s so relatable and also helpful in navigating creative living. I had several people express interest in reading it from my previous post. I hope you all have a had a chance to pick it up. Is there anything (besides reading) that absorbs your attention so much that when you look at the time, a lot of it has passed? . Obviously chores can be a time suck, but other things that are a time suck, but the fun kind—crafting (I got a sewing machine last year and I’m dying to get back to it) and watching Korean Dramas and/or anime are also ways I like to spend my free time too. . The other thing that I get completely caught up in is writing. Writing is definitely something I lose time and sleep over because once I’m in the story, it’s hard to stop. There have been times when my eyes would be tricksy and try to close, but my fingers would keep typing. Never in my dreams did I ever think I’d write a book and be on the cusp of sharing it with others. Writing wasn’t always easy for me, but I’ve worked so hard at it and it feels as if all the struggles and frustrations of my writing experiences are starting to pay off! . I don’t normally listen to music when I write, but since I’m revising, I’ve found that the music from these movies have been really inspiring. . I’ve been missing lately and will probably be in and out from now on because I’m deep in the revising trenches. I’m not where I had planned to be at this point before #dvpit, but I did finish my pass through of Act I of my story and my revising notes are strong. Who here is a writer too? I originally started this account as a platform to share my journey to becoming a published author. I’d been sharing the steps in my writing process and about my experience in The Writer’s Studio Online through Simon Frasier University. It was such a rewarding program. I highly recommend it! . But you’ll see that the majority of my posts are about books and reading which as a writer, I firmly believe that in order to become a better writer, you have to read. If I’m honest though, talking about books and reading is a lot easier to talk about than writing. Writing is such a solitary act but unlike reading, when you’re working on a project, you can’t really give away too many details and there really isn’t a way to make “I’m still writing” sound more exciting. 😅 . But I’m at the point where I’ve finished my first draft and I’m beginning my revisions. My goal this year is to finish revisions by April/May. I hope to start querying by the summer. . I’m also going to post more about writing to keep me accountable and if you all like to help by kindly inquiring on my progress, even better! . If you check out my stories (after all the stuff about my current reads), I actually shared some books about writing, a peak of my book map, and a glance at the hard copy of my draft (collated, hole punched, in a binder).
