Various backgrounds from Gunnail, an NMK / Tecmo shoot-em-up from 1993. This game isn't anything to write home about, but I am impressed with the artists, who struggled mightily to squeeze as much as they could out of what must have been outdated hardware. While most other games of this time period boasted broad gradients of colors that blended together more softly, NMK's team clearly had a limited palette available to them, and instead tried to make up for it with fine detail work and pixel dithering. Some of the results, such as the Earth behind a series of spinning monoliths, certainly shows the work paid off.
