1.4k words of pure procrastination, so sorry it took so long anon! hope you enjoy!
In all the years that I had been friends with Tyson, the one thing I knew for sure is that he never paid attention to detail.
All the little things would go right over his sweet head and for a while it wasnât a problem. He never took his teammateâs jabs or chirps to heart, and he swept all the hate from crazed fans about our friendship under the rug. He didnât bat an eye when the media was a bitch, and he didnât care what most people, (people that didnât know him), thought about him.
It was why I admired him. He was always a happy-go-lucky person.
Itâs why when I tried to tell him how I felt things didnât just roll off the tongue right. At least in the sense that he just wasnât picking up what I was putting down.
The scene set up in my living room on their off day wasnât an uncommon one. Tyson, Andre, Mikko and Nate were lounging about on my sofa watching whatever show they were binging, and decided I absolutely had to watch with them was on.
I wasnât paying it too much attention as I sat next to Tyson. His hand grazing the tops of my thighs through my leggings was driving me absolutely mad and taking up every single thought I was having.
I wish I had shorts on. Would it be obvious if I scooted a little closer to him?
I bit my lip in concentration as my eyes glazed over the T.V.
Andre glanced across the couch, looking pointedly to Tysonâs hand on me and gave me a sly smile.
He knew about my crush on Tyson. I had blabbed after way too many drinks the last time we had gone out.
Andre had offered to dance with me to get me off my mopey ass while a gorgeous girl flirted with my best friend at the bar.
My confession came out like word vomit.
Andre wasnât too much of a little shit to open his mouth at the worst times, but he did try to give me a friendly nudge every once in a while.
I didnât know if it was because of his all knowing look perched on my white sofa, or if the heavy feeling in my heart urged me to, but I placed a hand on top of Tysonâs and squeezed lightly, as if to say, Iâm here.
He turned his hand over and laced our fingers together. My heart felt like it skipped a beat.
He looked at me and the softness in his eyes almost had me telling him how I felt on the spot.
âTyson,â I leaned in closer to him and whispered.
His grasp on my hand tightened, âYeah.â
âCan I talk to-â
âAre you guys getting hungry?â Nate asked and I released a sigh that felt like it came from deep within me.
âYeah can we get Chick-fil-a for lunch?â Mikko questioned.
âYeah thatâs fine.â I said standing up from my spot with Tys on the couch and going to grab my keys. âTyson and I will go get it, text me what you guys want.â
âSee you guys in a bit.â Tyson said, following closely behind me.
My nerves suddenly racked up now that it was just the two of us and it was like my brain was short circuiting as we reached my car.
âCan you drive Tys?â I said.
He nodded, his hand brushing me as he gently grabbed the keys and got into the drivers side.
We got on the road and the texts from the boys flooded in on our group chat of what they wanted, and a separate one from Andre with a winky face.
My face flushed and before Tyson could say anything else, I turned up the volume on the radio where he couldn't ask what I was going to say earlier.
He left his hand palm up on the console though, and that was enough for me.
I lightly placed mine in his again.
Maybe this wasnât enough to tip him off. We held hands a fair amount. It was just the nature of our friendship. Maybe I should just say it out right.
By the time I mustered up the words and enough courage to say something, literally anything, we were pulling into the drive through of Chick-Fil-A and it all died on my tongue.
So much for that.

We made it out with everyone's correct order and I tried to turn the volume up on the radio again, but Tyson caught me red handed.
He glanced at me out of the corner of his eyes and then flicked them back to the road in front of him.
âAre you okay? Youâve been acting weird all day.â
I blew a strand of hair out of my face. âYeah, itâs nothing really.â
A straight lie. I wanna tell you so bad I just donât know how. Â I drummed my fingers along my thighs, looking out the window.
â(Y/N),â Tyson gave me a pointed look as if to say he knew me better than that. And he did. He just didnât know this.
I gave him a half smile as he poked me. I shrugged him off, nervous because he knows just how to get me to crack.
âWell umm, I wanted to tell-â
His phone rang, âHold on one sec, itâs Nate.â I internally groaned. Are you fucking kidding me? Perfect timing.
âWhat!? We're on our way back. Quit being annoying youâll get your damn food.â He winked at me and I giggled. The pounding of my heart was slightly aggressive and I didnât know if it would stop until I told him, but I pushed it to the back of my mind.

After lunch the boys were heading out and Tyson stayed behind to hang a little bit longer.
This was it. I had to do something.
But he beat me to it.
âHey what were you trying to tell me earlier?â My heart spiked as I finished wiping down the kitchen counter.
I put the rag away and squared my shoulders to face him. He was leaning off the counter across from me, and I decided my frustration could get the best of me for a second. So I said it pleasantly, âHi.â
âHi.â He smiled and I smiled back.
âYeah, Iâve been subtle at hinting that I want your attention all day and you havenât noticed once and now Iâm pissed.â
The grin he was sporting soon turned to laughter and I frowned.
âWhy are you laughing?â
âBecause youâre cute when youâre like this.â He said.
I was growing more impatient by the minute. I just need to get it off my chest. âDo you know how annoying it was that everytime I worked up the nerve to tell you how I feel that something, literally anything would interrupt?!â
His eyes went wide and I laughed humorlessly this time. âLike god forbid I tell you that Iâm in love with you!â
âYouâre in love with me?â He said, processing my words.
âYes! Iâm in love with you.â I huffed. âHave been for years now.â
He closed the gap between us, hands cupping my face and lips meeting lips in a surge. My stomach was alight with butterflies, fireworks even. The feeling of his lips, too good, too sweet to resist.
âTook you long enough.â He said breathlessly as he pulled back. His nose brushed mine as he kissed me lightly.
I pulled back this time, âMe?â I grinned, âHow long-â
He kissed me again, this time slower, his mouth opening up to me as he grabbed me by the waist and pulled me closer to him. I put a hand on his chest and with every ounce of willpower I had within me pulled back from him.
I raised a brow and he looked at me as if to say alright.
âIâve been in love with you since that first night at Landyâs when you were my beer pong partner and for every cup you sank you made me tell you something about myself. And you sank almost every cup I swear. But everything you told me about youâŚâ He said, his fingers lightly dug into my sides, hooking into my shirt and holding onto the fabric there.
âMade me fall for you harder. I just didnât know how someone like you would ever see me as more than a friend, so I settled. But I loved you. I still do. Iâm in love with you.â He smiled.
And god, if it wasnât the most amazing smile I had ever seen.
