#GRUBPIX July, 2017 Part of the #GRUBseries where i explore food and weight, emotional eating, the interaction between fat-shamers and the fat-shamed, black female bodies and ownership, expectations and control. Very sharp in my mind are slavery and the story of Saartjie Baartman, how far are we from that? What tendencies remain? Body image is definitely a part of this ongoing project. i feel completely unattractive. Why? i have always felt unattractive. i don't know how to use makeup or dress fancy. i guess at one point, an athletic build was what made me "interesting," that removed, i do feel most times like a zero element. This project did not end when #LAB4 did. i have put in on pause to reevaluate, what went wrong and what could be recycled for the work. As an artist, work is made for an audience, most of the work i have done since 2008, has been done in a vacuum, with little or no audience, no analysis, no critique and no feedback. It is hard to tell what "works." Back to the drawing board to re-conceptualize the GRUB series. For the few who saw #GRUBPIX and #GRUB, Thank you, i appreciate you. This is part of the reason i want the art infrastructure in Belize, so that works can be discussed, analyzed, critiqued and put into context. #iamablackfemaleartistdonoteraseme
