There’s a really neat beach that I’ve never been to. I was planning to try to get there this weekend, but we’re traveling on Sunday, which means I’d need to go Saturday. And at this point I can’t not participate in the local protest, even though it will probably be small, even though my own contribution will be pathetic and inadequate.

So I’ve decided to use a day of PTO and go tomorrow instead, spend some time by myself with just the wind and the grass, a few cows. And the birds.

I’m hoping for Grasshopper Sparrows. I’d never seen them IRL until this year, when I found out you can see them in SBA; you just have to work for them.

It’s nice to be able to achieve something.

Dahlonega, GA

HALLOWEEN! Katherine and I both hold positions on our Residence Hall Student Committee - which means participating in Trunk or Treat! It’s like trick or treating, but from the boots/trunks of cars that come to one car park in town, and are decorated in a theme! This is apparently the only kind of halloween most of the kids around Dahlonega know, because much of the country is rural and/or not really safe enough, outside the town centre. It was amazing to see their little faces as they walked by all of the stalls to get candy - one group of 3 cars was designed as a huge cardboard castle, the girls wore ‘proper’ princess gowns and the guys were dresses as your regular prince charmings (i think they were cadets wearing their class A uniforms). It was great - a lot of fun but the night did drag on until the event was over around 8 pm!

Some people went out afterwards - we went to bed :’)
