      it was in your genes, was it not?   to be cynical?   to be used to let down and dismay.  to be used to despair and all that came with the gallagher name. it had to be.   though with fiona, it was different.  perhaps there sat a sense of empathy for her in some corner of your heart.  from the nights you used to hear her cry from her bedroom or kitchen, thinking maybe - just maybe, someone would save her from this hell.    had you all not wished the same? wished for something bigger than this?   ( could you amount to anything more than the south side waste that was often produced here? could you make it out alive despite the pain in your heart and mind? ) 

tonight was different.   tonight there was a sense of innocence in the gallagher home that had been lost long ago.   there was joy and there was laughter as everyone huddled in the living room, delivery pizza on the table and beers passed around.   you’d escaped to the kitchen, collecting a refill and a conversation with your sister.    a woman who gave her heart and soul to everything she encountered,  sister who you owed your life too.
