What brush do you use? :0
Hi! I USE,, QUITE A FEW BRUSHES so this might get long,, I mostly use the "Charcoal Stick - Sargent - Dark" brush (sometimes with a lighter color and the Rendering blend mode set to ‘multiply’) from this REALLY GOOD brush pack for Procreate here! It's got a lot of super nice crunchy and smooth textured brushes, but I'd recommend making use of the apple pencil's tilt to get the most of them. MaxU's free "Sketchy Sarmento" pencil brush is a super good similar one that I used for a while too!
I'd recommend playing with the pressure settings in the apple pencil section of the brush studio to get the pressure you want though (especially for lining or sketching brushes). I get easily exhausted pressing my pencil down really hard to make darker marks, so it's important to tailor your tools to how you work. <:’]
I also like the gouache flow brushes (especially the "Gouache Flow Rough") from MaxPacks! Procreate's default Gouache and Watercolor brushes in the Painting section are also really good alternatives too.
I'M ALSO HUGE FAN of True Grit Texture Supply's tools, especially their Debaser Kit, Beat Tones Halftone Brushes, and Fast Grit Stamps to crunch the heck out of your artwork with paper and halftone textures. Purposefully putting "imperfections" in my artwork kinda helps me curb my perfectionism when it comes to drawing, so they might also be helpful to some folks! They also have a bunch of cool brushes in their free Sampler Pack here!
If anyone has any questions about the specific brushes/settings/techniques I used in a particular piece though, I'd be more than happy to try my best to answer! I’m not sure if the brush creators allow direct download links for their paid brushes, though. (´;ω;`) A lot of my process honestly just involves throwing textures at the wall and then blasting the heck out of it with overlay layers haha

Can I have some art style advice? I have been struggling with this for so long, I know "Don't worry about buddy it's going to be ok" but I am driving myself crazy about it! I see so much wonderful art in so many wonderful styles I am just filled with inspiration, then when I draw, I try to mush some of my favorite parts of the styles together the eyes, noses, mouths, everything but it just doesn't go together and look so weird. I just don't know how do deal with it anymore. So any advice?
hey there anon !! having an art style dilemma can be super frustrating, sorry to hear that you’re struggling with it! <:[
i’m still trying to feel out what exactly i want my “”“style””” to be, but personally, i feel that i’ve grown more as an artist/drew what i consider to be my best stuff when i focused more on “what do i have the most fun with”, rather than “i absolutely need to make a style to set myself apart from others ” (although that isn’t really a bad thing in itself!)
(gramps got long-winded again dfhgdh so here’s a bit more under the cut)

This might be a extremely weird question but how do you just doodle? Every time I draw something I feel like I have to draw something complete and "it has to be perfect" (tbh I think that is why I don't draw that often) I just want to doodle stupid drawings for fun but my brain is like "nah its gotta be perfect or whats the point of drawing anything?" So uh any tips to stop this self-destructing behavior?
O YA DUDE i feel u !!
a thing that’s almost always worked for me is to just. try to not think abt drawing for an audience, and just draw stuff for you? (sry i rambled on a bit, gonna shove the rest under a cut haha)
Your art style is so cozy and beautiful omg!! And the way you render is so original waugh! Keep being lovely n have a wonderful week 🌱💕
aUGH THANK YOU!! That means a lot to hear, I'm really glad you enjoy my work <:']c Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my stuff, and I hope you have a wonderful week too! 🍄🧡💛
I know i've said it before but i absolutely ADORE your art, your style is so unique and lovely to look at and it's interesting seeing mythology i'm not familiar with in a cute setup!
YOOO thank you so much man, I really appreciate the kind words !!! ;u; 💖
I was raised SUPER detached from my own culture, so this is all kind of a learning process for me as well haha. I’m trying to learn more about traditional Filipino mythology/beliefs as a way to kinda reconnect myself a lil bit, so I’m touched to know that my recent stuff has been well-received !!
