“Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s” is an interesting thrill of a ride to sit through watching Team 5D’s individual developments as Signers in coming together to combat some threats to humanity. Although the idea of card games on motorcycles seem weird, the turbo duels give the adrenaline rush of being on the edge of the seat. It’s an anime series that’s about more than just a card game. There’s a realism to it that covers the harsh reality of society relevant to life’s difficulties and obstacles. Yusei Fudo is an inspiring, profoundly impressionable protagonist embodying the strength and hope to push forward and thrive even in the bleakest of times…even with his friends’ support. Even the other fellow Signers shine when the opportunities arise for them to contribute their efforts and their character development, where each are personally relatable. Due to some undubbed episodes, especially the rest of the original fifth season’s episodes, some plot holes were left uncovered and the English dub’s ending felt unfulfilled.
