Zucchini evolution - 1 week π₯ππ¦
Each year since I started my green journey Iβve challenged myself to grow something new, and see first hand the resiliency of nature in my local environment.
My raised garden bed is primarily clay - and currently home to a pretty large anthill. I maintain peace with the insects by leaving their corner colony alone, and supplement the clay with store bought soil when I plant initially, but beyond that all I do to the earth is weed and water when needed and wait π
Which means Iβm VERY excited to have both my new crops for 2023 - garlic and these beautiful zucchiniβs, doing well!
While our grow and harvest may still be small scale, a lot can still be done on a tiny budget with the help of our incredible planet! π€©
My simmer pot this afternoon!
Made with 5 ingredients I had at home, this pot helps to protect, motivate and amplify intention!
It being the darkest day of the year today I also threw together a couple spell jars using a similar variety of herbs and and intentions, along with a clear quartz in one just to boost that good energy even more!
(Other jar not pictured)
I actually committed to trying to make bone broth out of leftover chicken bones and it gelled perfectly and I am so excited!! Is this what getting older feels like? ππ»
Planted my first cloves of garlic! π§
Iβm in Southern Ontario where we have 4 very distinct seasons and Iβve never tried to grow my own garlic because it requires too much patience! Getting through the winter and not knowing whether anything will actually sprout? Not really my thing.
BUT this year I decided to take 10 minutes outside and planted 5 large cloves of beautiful Ontario garlic - 4 went directly into the ground and 1 into a 5 gal bucket incase the others get disturbed. I gave them all a good cover of fallen leaves for insulation and protection - fingers crossed the rats living under my back yard donβt just take them as a snack! (But if they do oh well. City living is about positively coexisting with displaced animals of any kind!)

Fermenting in Honey!
Raw honey has tons of incredible, naturally occurring benefits, including anti-viral, fungal and bacterial properties! To really amp it up, Iβm starting with a fermented honey garlic π€©
To start, I used a 4oz jar and 1.5 heads of garlic, then covered it with my raw, local honey! Together, when fermented the mixture will have immune boosting properties, and can be eaten solo when you feel a cold coming on, or added to various recipes! Once I see how this baby batch works out, Iβll move on to a 5lbs bag of fresh Ontario garlic and what Iβm sure will end up being at least 1kg of honey! π
(the honey and garlic both still need to drop - the jar isnβt as full as it looks π )
I chose garlic because honey and garlic are two flavours I cook with a lot and absolutely love together ππ» Each time I disrupt the garlic and honey to maintain even and healthy fermentation, I hope to take a moment to ground myself and channel an energy into one that supports wellness with gratitude for my local ecosystem π₯°π
