FILM POSTERS OF THE 60s: THE ESSENTIAL MOVIES OF THE DECADE from the Reel Poster Gallery Collection, Edited by Tony Nourmand and Graham Marsh | Most movie posters should burn. Especially since the appearance of Photoshop. Being able to use Photoshop hardly makes one a graphic designer; like how using your oven hardly makes you a chef. I feel that studios are starting to realize this, but for a while almost everything became giant floating heads, horrible lens flares, and tacky type built into formulaic 'art'. Still, barely any illustrators (traditional) are being put to work, almost nothing seems to really be designed but rather just sort of laid out, and the entire concept of 'concept' seems lost among many. If you want to see some of the greatest movie posters get any of the books (sorted by decade or genre) from London's Reel Poster Gallery who happen to have a staggering collection of well, real posters from the world over. This book focuses on the best of the 1960s. Pictured is a spread featuring three posters for a movie with one of the greatest car chase scenes of all time, 'Bullitt' (two from the USA, one from Italy), and a spread with a British poster for their very own James Bond in 'Goldfinger'. Classic. I still have it on VHS. Maybe it'll find its way into this feed.
