We all miss Prince but there are better ways to remember him than to read memoirs of others. Prince was different things to different people. He was musical, he was creative, and he was a true artist in every sense. Here are a few ways to enjoy Prince and his artistry this weekend.

Ebay! There is nothing that feels better than buying random Prince memorabilia on Ebay. Check out “Other Prince memorabilia” if you ever want a good laugh. (Cheapo Prince coloring books, anyone?)

Sort through your collection of digital Prince boots. You have been saying you’d sort through it for ages but you haven’t. You have missing artwork/metadata. (Those after shows and rehearsals need to be fixed. Admit it.)  

Fan-zines. They are a fun record of past events. Recaps of concerts, shows, celebrations, and fan events. It’s especially fun to read for those who didn’t get to witness these events.

SOTT Concert Night. It’s the 30th anniversary! Crank up the sound system and “shake your body til your neighbors stare ‘atcha” (or better yet until they complain about the noise.) Make sure you move the furniture out of the way before you start the show. Don’t forget the outtakes!

More concerts! It’s not possible to just watch one obviously. It will take you some time to finally finish SOTT because we already know you’re going to rewind your favorite parts over and over and over again…Lovesexy, The Nude Tour, Purple Rain, and Prince’s Birthday Concert in Detroit.

Write your own story. We all have Prince memories. Take out a journal and just let it flow. It’ll be full of Prince-isms naturally. Think about your top Prince memories. (Whatever you manage to write will be more entertaining than what’s in Mayte’s book, and far more nostalgic. It will be truthful, too) Write down how much Prince’s music has means to you and how much it has taught you. Think about the time you first heard the songs that are in your top 5 Prince songs. Remember how it just blew your mind? He set out with a dream and accomplished it. How has that influenced you? How has it made you work harder? How has Prince changed your life? What are you favorite Prince moments that have made you laugh, cry, smile, and totally squeal like a fangirl?

Movie night mysteries! You’ve seen all three of them repeatedly but solve these mysteries!

Purple Rain. How is it possible for Prince to ride a motorcycle and not a single curl goes out of place? Matter of fact, not a single hair goes out of place the entire movie. Those curls were bouncing but stayed in formation.

Under the Cherry Moon. Who bought those grapes? All that money and The Sharons have grapes with pits in ‘em. Clearly, Christopher Tracy was shocked and disgusted. Find out how on Earth is it possible to run that fast in heels?

Graffiti Bridge. Now this film is a mystery on its own. Crack open some banana peppers and sing along.  (But if you are really curious find out where on The Seven Corners did Morris get his money shoes? I think we all need to hide money that way sometimes. Oh and “It’s just around the corner,” isn’t a good enough answer.)

Go to Paisley. Simple as that. Save your money for your trip to Paisley or what you can buy when you arrive there. (And if it isn’t happening anytime soon just remember Paisley Park is in your heart…)

Prince’s music is the soundtrack to our lives. He entertained us for almost forty years. No matter what your plan is for reading any future bios on Prince, just remember the music when remembering the man. The music is his autobiography. We came for the music, the shows, his sense of humor, the mystery... Oh and his fashion! The poke-a-dot suit with the heels to match! D&P’s yellow suit with the cloud guitar to match! Let’s not forget how his suit matched his car in “Gangster Glam” or the shoes that lit up when he walked! Better yet, the white heels with the glass heel on them. No one could walk any cooler in those heels!

He gave us the whole package. That’s the gift that we received. That’s his legacy. He could jump from bass, to guitar, to piano, to drums in one swift beat. To boot, he included those crazy microphone stand tricks and dance moves. No other artist has a tour book that lists the band and each instrument they will play but the main artist? Prince - [on] Whatever. We came to know him as a musician. His music is so powerful that many of us feel like he was a very close friend or family member. It’s because music is apart of the human spirit. We’ve got the memories and we’ve got the music. We miss you, Prince.
