He’s a little bit over-tired, maybe.. More than a little. A lot. Perhaps that’s why he’s slipping--on this case, or maybe just in general. He’s been in a rut for a while, and this should just be an easy case.. a werewolf, obviously--eating the hearts of it’s victims and leaving them staged for anyone to find. Like a serial killer, almost, and the thought of it gave J’onn chills. This wasn’t just for food, it was so obviously sport, and it weighed on J’onn’s mind.

So perhaps, he’s a little bit startled when he hears a flutter of feathers behind him, jolting a little more than he would normally at the sound. He steadies himself quickly, though, putting on that hidden smile he wears at the company, and hides the exhaustion from under his eyes. And then, he turns around.

So an Angel and a Martian walk into a space-station. It sounds exactly like one of Ted’s terrible jokes, and the thought makes J’onn tempted to roll his eyes. He doesn’t, for the other’s benefit, as he most certainly would not be in on the joke.

sam’s  flinch  away  from  castiel  is  more  aggressive  than  he  intends.  there  is  a  tremor  at  the  tips  of  his  fingers,  his  jaw  when  he  opens  his  mouth  to  speak.  he  understands  the  medical  necessity  in  redressing  and  cleaning  wounds,  but  every  touch  is  scalding,  drives  him  mere  inches  from  his  fight-or-flight  response,  strikes  a  deep  terror  into  the  depth  of  his  heart.  guilt  follows  his  fear,  intense,  just  short  of  a  physical  sensation.  he  wrests  with  the  bile  in  his  esophagus,  and  the  heavy,  exhausted  feeling  from  shoulders  to  knees.

it’s  not  sam’s  emotional  attachment--he’s  known  the  aforementioned  guy  for  a  week  (it  was  that  way,  sometimes,  picking  up  a  straggler  to  watch  your  back,  tossing  him  a  few  cans  of  preservatives  for  the  safety  of  i’ll  take  first  shift),  tops.  its  the  merit  of  letting  someone  die  to  come  out  unmarred  from  a  complex  situation.  he’s  sure  (we  did  what  we  had  to  do,  how  many  times  did  he  hear  that,  from  john,  from  dean?)  it  lacked  simplicity,  sure  the  half-mumbled  sympathies  and  aggressive  refuting  would  come  like  hooks  sinking  into  winnows  mouths,  and  boy,  does  he  feel  that  fish  line  tugging.  

bobby  makes  some  noise  resetting  a  trap,  a  brief  interval  to  let  what  seems  like  shock  fester  in  sam.   he  gapes  at  cas,  his  lips  softly  parting,  the  head  of  protest  breaching  the  slight  gap  between  his  moderately  kempt  teeth.   his  frustrations  and  fear  mount  easy  on  his  gentle  features.

            speaking  bluntly,  sam  lips  slacken  and  hold  his  wonder  there,  a  poorly  hidden  secret  pooling  between  his  teeth,  some  proclamation  of  something  like  love.  he  realizes  how  he  comes  across,  rights  his  posture,  swathes  the  webbing  of  his  thumb  and  finger  over  his  mouth.
