QOTD: Do you like gouache? So I bought some new Holbein and Winsor and Newton gouache and this was the result because sometimes I get bored and draw Valan in fun outfits. I can’t wait to start another actual detailed gouache painting because this was a fun warm up and I’m feeling rather inspired. I like gouache, it’s fun to layer, I just wish I used it more. Wuh..im looking 2 buy gouaches and i def cant afford the best ones yknow and the most affordable 2 me that are decent are Reeves, which ive always had the impression was a relatively good quality brand (or at least decent!) while being affordable
but im looking up reviews on Youtube and it made me sad how all that came up were like... "reeves gouaches. are they THAT shitty?"/"trying out BAD CHEAP gouaches" and i look at the videos and they genuinely arent bad quality at all lmfao??? its just regular????
am i just inexperienced in gouaches & cant tellthe difference between amazing quality & these or are the videos just. MEAN
i hateeee videos like these they feel so rude/dismissive?? its like those makeup reviews where they basically treat drugstore makeup like shit when its all some ppl can afford lol??? not all of us can get the best quality, and decent+affordable quality actually *works just fine*

Per sapere cos'è una "gouache" dovremmo interrogare un dizionario specifico o un esperto di pittura. Il dizionario (francese) ci direbbe che si tratta di una tempera, un guazzo. L'esperto risponderebbe con termini tecnici che non soddisferebbero la curiosità della domanda. Il racconto di questo lavoro nasce da questa parola-chiave, evocata da un grosso volume del 1975, edizione Congedo, che raffigura i vestiti popolari di Terra d'Otranto tra Settecento e Ottocento del passato millennio. È il volume che mia moglie ha sempre tenuto a vista per la casa, estasiandosi di fronte ai vestiti della nostra terra, monocromi, color bruno terra. Di tanto in tanto, rimuginava il proposito di riprodurre quei vestiti in cartapesta. Conoscendo la sua tenacia e le sue doti, ero certo che, prima o poi, il progetto sarebbe stato realtà.
