Kakashi studied their unconscious captive hanging by his foot from a branch. “You could not be more attractive right now.” Kakashi turned to Iruka, and he was finding himself, once again, glad to have taken this joint B-Rank. “Not just to me, mind you, but to any person in all the elemental countries with even the slightest hint of common sense.”

“What–?” And then, Iruka understood,and his tone was exasperated. “You are absolutely infuriating.”

“I’d hope so. I wouldn’t keep you on your toes if I weren’t.”

Iruka’s eye twitched. “Loving you is enough to do that,” he muttered through clenched teeth.

“Come again?” Kakashi grinned as he stepped forward. “Is that a confession? Wait I should record it.” He feigned rummaging through his flak jacket.

“This is the second time I’ve confessed.”

Kakashi clicked his tongue. “You were poisoned,” he pointed out, “and high as a kite in the hospital. I don’t count that one.”

“Is it because I was hallucinating that you were a blond?”

“That’s awful, don’t remind me of that. We should do something else instead.”

Within seconds,Kakashi calculated every outcome of this scenario, knowing things ending poorly was probable, and tugged his mask down to kiss Iruka anyways.

“Oh,” Iruka said softly, after they pulled away. “Okay, yeah, that’s fine.”

“I am an idiot about many things,” Kakashi replied. “But I know better now than to pass an opportunity to be happy.”

Iruka raised a brow. “So you finally came to that conclusion. Can’t wait for Yamato and Gai to hear that.”

“Life, my dear sensei, is a learning process.” And Kakashi pulled him into another kiss. T&I could wait an hour or two.
