32. Thoughts on material possessions in general?

Inconsequential. Jonathan is ready to pick up and leave with only the clothes on his back at a moment’s notice. Even the physical manifestations of his work can be done without. He memorizes his notes so that he can burn them if necessary. He can remake his toxin. Even books - Jon doesn’t consider himself to buy books, he’s buying the knowledge and stories within. It was drilled into him at a very early age that materialism is Sinful; he knows this is a pile of bullshit, but he still looks down on people obsessed with luxury.

48. How do they express love?

Actions speak louder than words. Jonathan doesn’t put much stock in words, especially about this; in his experience, words are hollow. If he’s become close enough to someone to actually love them, then that person knows Jon’s limits and discomforts. Jon shows his love by showing his partner that he’s willing to make them the exception.

He won’t hold hands in public, but he’ll brush against and squeeze their fingers. When he makes coffee, he’ll brew a second cup. If they’re crying, he’ll let them cling. He’ll let himself fall asleep in their presence.

Jon’s like a cat. Once you learn to read him, you’ll find he says quite a lot.
