Another Fire Today, Ridge Fire in Gorman

A second wildfire in two days is affecting Frazier Park and surrounding communities. The Ridge Fire is burning along I-5 in Gorman. The fire started around 2:40pm on the east side of I-5 near Hungry Valley, and smoke billowed over the mountain here around 3pm as it began to spread west toward Frazier Park.

After the fire jumped from the east side to the west side of I-5, the freeway was completely shut down in both directions, at Smokey Bear Rd. northbound and Frazier Mountain Park Rd. southbound.

There is zero containment as of the last Cal Fire status report at 5:53pm, with 1000 acres burned. However, between the last update at 5:34 and this one, acres burned has not increased. We are unable to actually see the fire from here, so we are relying on these reports and our observation of smoke locally.

LA County Fire Department is in command of this fire, and it is fortunately many miles from the center of Frazier Park. As of around 6pm, the smoke looks like it has dissipated and we are hopeful for a quick end to this fire, despite the containment ditches being at zero.

Yesterday's fire, the Buzzard Fire, is currently at 47% containment this evening. Acres burned has not increased since yesterday, standing at 895. They may want to deploy the ditch diggers who increased the containment from 37% to 47% this afternoon to the Ridge Fire, which is still going, or at least smoldering, from our vantage point.
