How do I develop a better relationship with my writing?
Alright gorgeous I’m doing a three card reading, pulling a fourth if needed.
So I won’t lie, this is a wonderful spread; it starts strong and optimistic and flows into the future with some advice. The base of the reading is Fortune, or Lakshmi. You see how beautiful the card is? This is the abundance of the universe, this is the flow of riches to and from your soul. Not only that, though, this card is a symbol for the awareness of love - not just it’s presence, but your acknowledgement of it. That’s the thing about beauty: we have to recognize it.
This is your writing, not just the work you have done but the work that is yet to come.
According to the deck your relationship with your writing, currently, is a pressure for balance. The middle card is the same suit that Lakshmi is (pentacles) so we are talking directly about your work. But see how she’s juggling one in each hand? This is about mastering your prose and yourself. Consciously, you are viewing your writing as juggling what you see as your set of tasks, but understand it’s much more than that. It’s the building of muscle to help you when your strength begins to flag. It’s possible you’ve allowed these writing muscles to grow weak, so you feel the struggle more succinctly.
The last card is good, but it’s giving you a warning. Eight staves with strength and direction, and lightning cracking down - this is what all writers want and always look forward to: the burst of inspiration. But what good is that inspiration without a fertile base for it to grow?
So here are some things to consider in regards to feeling less negative about your writing, according to the cards. Your imagination is fruitful and vivid and with your talents you are able to bring these riches to life. However, you become overwhelmed easily by the ‘juggling’ that occurs as soon as you take on more than one project, more than one plot, more than one idea. You suddenly divide it up into a multitude of tasks and become overwhelmed.
Understand, though, that writing is a muscle and our ability to continue with it can be trained. And know that it is ok to drop something to the ground, and pick it up later. Stay focused, yes - hammer out those paragraphs even when it’s hard as Hell, but soon your writing muscles will kick in, and you’ll be able to handle everything smoothly. And this is important, because when lightning strikes you will be able to have a strong base to build up from. It’s possible you wait too long for inspiration to strike, and when it does you find you can’t do anything with it. Remember, too, that inspiration often occurs while we are working on a project; that’s where the juggling comes in. Our work, and our inspiration, are constantly intertwined, but sometimes something goes up while the other goes down. Remember to balance, let go, and embrace the richness of your imagination.
