Pictures taken in this set: 1. Two of a few Mallards I was thrilled to see in strong late autumn/early winter sunlight, beautiful and colourful scenes bringing out the brown of the female so well. 2 and 9. The two gorgeous redhead Goosanders which I was over the moon to see again, feeling lucky to get views of them for a longer period than Sunday. Magical moments, it shall be interesting to see if they stick around through the winter or not. 3, 6 and 8. Some of the glorious views in bright sunshine with plenty of nice autumnal colour which I enjoyed at lunch time. 4 and 7. Sweetly shaped trees which I enjoy seeing out the front in nice autumnal colour. 5. Great Crested Grebes looking fine in the sunlight too. 10. A lovely daisy at Lakeside.
At Lakeside I also enjoyed seeing Mistle Thrushes, great views flying of Jackdaws with them heard nicely too, Moorhen, Coot, Woodpigeon, Great Tit, House Sparrow in the allotment hedges, a Green Woodpecker seen quickly, Grey Squirrel, lovely thistle seed heads, rose hips, shining wild service tree berries, ragwort, dandelion and a butterfly out on a sunny day seen flying high probable Speckled Wood with Robin heard singing. Rose hips and House Sparrow were highlights at home today too as well as delightful groups of Starlings which I was pleased to spend brief moments fixated on.
Common Merganser or Goosander ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐จ๐ถ๐ด ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ณ๐จ๐ข๐ฏ๐ด๐ฆ๐ณ These may be the mystery birds that keep photobombing my landscapes. They sometimes look like a gull, sometimes more duck- or even goose-like. Maybe even murrelet-like. They have the dark head and brighter beak, along with pointy wings with dark tips. When not needing they may gather together in large numbers, so they may also be done of those 'ducks' we suddenly have loads of in the River. #sonydschx400v #sonydsc #sonycybershot #SonyCameras #goosanders #goosander #commonmergansers #commonmerganser #merganser #mergusmerganser #kenai #kenairiverflats #kenaialaska #alaska #alaskaphotography #alaskawildlife #alaskawildlifephotography (at Kenai River Flats State Rec Site) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWS0qtAl6sY/?utm_medium=tumblr

Extended family
Two male goosanders- also known as Common Mergansers - were captured mid-brawl by amateur photographer Attila Seprenyi near his home in Sweden. The bird on the left was the victor, and swam away happily with the female.
