Set Your Own Standard
It’s as if not being comfortable with yourself show’s in every single relationship you have until you take the time to discover what your self worth is and then hold yourself and every person around you to that standard. If you’re not willing to show people respect or respect yourself, people won’t respect you as an individual. I'm sure throughout your life you've had someone tell you to treat other people the way you want to be treated but I don’t think we take the time to appreciate that statement. If you hold others to the same standard you expect them to hold you to and you don’t ever lower your standards (because they’re standards for a reason, they show what you think you deserve and if you ever lower them, then you haven’t found your self worth yet and you need to be reminded of how much you deserve) you will build beautiful friendships with people.
But there’s more to it than that, once you set people to that standard and you’ve found this self-awareness, when you feel that ability to tell someone when you feel uncomfortable or disrespected, when you start to demand respect from people and give nothing but respect in return, you will find that people will treat you much differently and your life will become a lot more positive.
You have to follow through in every way though, if someone trusts you, keep their secret. If someone is hitting on you, not in a disrespectful way, more-so like you do not feel the same way and you’re uncomfortable type of way, you cannot act as if you like them to their face to “be nice” and then go and tell people about it as if you were uncomfortable. That’s in-genuine and disrespectful to the person who was interested. Just be honest, with yourself and with others. That is how you’ll find your standards and your self worth. Through self discovery and brutal honesty.Â
Sometimes you have to face what you’ve been doing, especially if you’re unhappy with yourself. You might cry, you might feel super low but the nice part is, if you can admit that you’re doing something wrong then you’re already making a huge step towards fixing the issue. It’s hard to figure out exactly what in our lives is off or is hurting us, but if you take the time to simply change every thing in your life that makes you unhappy, casually and gradually, as you realize what things contribute to your unhappiness, then you will find what makes you truly happy.
I'm having a fantastic Taylor Swift vibe today. My iPod loves me ;)
Stress: It's all in your head.
All day I've been feeling particularly stressed. My professors assign papers upon papers, exams upon exams, presentations upon presentations. I have a conference next week that I still need to prepare and organize for. I have finals to start studying for as well as getting through take home assignments. It all feels like too much to take in. Amidst all these due date running back & forth through my head, I decide to take a moment to stop and gather my thoughts. First off, there are people in far more "stressful" situations than me who are handling themselves much better. Secondly, who says stress is always a bad thing? Perhaps it's that tad bit of motivation that gets the adrenaline kicking to get work done. Thirdly, what is stress if you don't let it get to you? I mean, my school and my job are both things that are preparing me for what the future has in store. It will all be worth it. I love what I do and that's all that matters. All of a sudden, I'm not feeling so stressed anymore. My thoughts are gathered and I'm ready to work.
What life really comes down to is how you look at it. You're defined not by the situations that you're put in, but how you carry yourself in them. Stay positive and things will be great! :)
