oh boi
FUGANDHI GOES BAD BRAINS!
Hey, everybody! This is our free cover of “Attitude” (originally by Bad Brains)!
Bad Brains is an amazing band, and I recommend anyone who enjoys punk/hardcore punk/reggae to check out their music (as well as any documentary you can find on these dudes). Their story is quite unique.
In the beginning of the song you will hear a moment from an interview with the late (and great) Bob Marley. I decided to apply this audio as an introduction into the song for artistic purposes (being well-aware of how the members of Bad Brains had been inspired after experiencing Bob Marley and The Wailers live; I have also been inspired by Bob Marley’s music & his message throughout my life having enjoyed his reggae and earlier ska origins).
Although it’s kind of weird to cover a tune - It was Fun and we made it for FREE for people to enjoy (Go check out Bad Brains!) - We were goofin’ around & having a good time in the name of PUNK!
Having a Positive Mental Attitude is an essential ingredient in my life (although I’m not always a positive person hahaha; Life’s not perfect I guess). It’s good to be good and it’s nice to be nice (that’s my opinion - take it or leave it).
OH! And for sake of knowing - KiMMM! is the woman who sings/screams/shouts with me (in music & in life, hahaha)!
With that said, Here’s to keeping the good times going! Enjoy!
“Attitude” originally by Bad Brains
“Don’t care what they may say - We got that Attitude!
Don’t care what you may do - We got that Attitude!
Hey - We got that P.M.A.!
Hey - We got that P.M.A.!
Don’t care what you may do - We got that Attitude!
Don’t care what you may say - We got that Attitude!
Hey - We got that P.M.A.!
Hey - We got that P.M.A.!
We got that Attitude!
We got that Attitude!”
Ten to Zen
Ten helpful reminders to aid you in being and staying more Zen in your everyday life.
1. Leave the past in the past, especially the painful stuff. You don't live there anymore so why let painful memories continue to hurt you?
2. Live for now. If your mind is always thinking of the past or dreaming of the future, then you have no present. There is only this moment, so be in it fully.
3. Remember that how you and others act and think are products of years of conditioning starting from childhood, but you can change the way you act, think, and react by becoming more mindful and aware of yourself.
4. In moments of stress and anger, take a minute to analyze how your body feels before you lash out. Once you recognize the tenseness in your shoulders, knots in your stomach, and clenched fists and jaw, ask yourself if this is how you want to feel? If it doesn't feel good, the answer is probably no. You can then close your eyes, take a couple deep breaths, and relax your body a little before handling the situation.
5. Don't cling onto any positive or negative feeling, thought, or experience. One fact of life is that everything changes, so if you can't let go of something it can lead to suffering. For positive things this doesn't mean you can't be happy, you just need to maintain the realization that it won't always be like that. For example, you might be having the time of your life on vacation but realize that you have to be back at work on Monday. Live in the moment during vacation but don't hold onto it once it's gone. For one, when you return to work you might feel miserable because you wish you were still on vacation. And two, you would be living in the past and not in the present moment.
6. Remember the "two arrows" in life. The first arrow is when a painful physical or emotional experience happens. It is part of life and a lot of times we can't avoid it. The second arrow we shoot into ourselves. It is when we dwell and cling onto our pain and that is what prolongs our suffering. Like thinking "why does this always happen to me?", "this sucks", or "I have the worst luck". Those second arrows only make the situation feel worse but you can control them. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
7. When you're going through the loss of a loved one and grieving, know that they're not really gone. Even if you don't believe in an afterlife, think of it scientifically. When something dies it just changes form. Everything around us including ourselves is made up of atoms and energy...we used to be stars! So when we die, our atoms and energy become part of something else in the world around us. I know that won't make you any less sad when you're missing a loved one, but it brings me a little bit of comfort to think about it in that way.
8. The more good you put out into the universe, the more good karma you'll receive in return. Karma is not a superstitious ideal. It is simply the result of your actions.
9. There are actual health benefits of positive thinking, mindfulness, and meditation. Not only do they benefit mental health like combating depression and overcoming stress, but they can also help to strengthen your immune system, lower blood pressure, reduce memory loss, and so much more! Even 15 minutes of meditation a day is beneficial. If you absolutely don't have the time to meditate daily, mindfulness and positive thinking are beneficial just in themselves.
10. And remember that nobody is perfect. So if you fall off the path, just notice your negative thoughts or unskillful actions and let it go. You can try again next time but dwelling on your wrongdoings will do no good. 🙏🏻
