it like doesn't quite work cause in my headcanon the goldsteins are poor jewish immigrants and would have been in steerage, not the cabins (and uhhh i'm pretty sure everyone in steerage on the leta/credence boat would have died) but whatever

(This is the kind of thing that unfolds when I put too much of myself into the characters. 😂)

Concept: Leta never died. She and Theseus have been married 20 years. Their marriage is content and secure, yet long-lacking the spark of incipient love.

Theseus sits in his easy chair reading a book. Leta’s curled up in his lap, absentmindedly stroking the hollow of his throat. They’re comfortable in each other’s arms, long-familiar.

“Theseus...” she starts.

“Hmmm, love?... Just let me finish this chapter.”

She waits patiently as the moments pass.

Theseus marks the page. “Yes, darling. My attention is all yours.”

Perhaps, she considers. “I’ve been wondering... What do you think about women kissing?”

Theseus’ ears perk up, among other things. “Women kissing? You mean, kissing each other?”

“Yes.” Leta’s stroking continues.

“Well. I... uh... really haven’t given it much thought.”

Leta unhooks the top button of his shirt, “Liar,” she whispers in his ear.

Theseus sets the book on the end table, and takes off his reading glasses. He slides his hand along her thigh.

“So... uh... have YOU... given it some thought?”

“A bit,” she answers honestly. Straightforwardness for Leta has never been difficult.

“Tell me.”

“Tina Goldstein.”

“Newt’s wife?”

“Of course.”

“Tina?!”

Leta slips her hand into his shirt. “She’s soft — her hands, her voice. ...I’ve thought about it.”
