Dahlia: what time of day/night is best for you to write?

Afternoons are good times for me, which of course is when I work Monday-Friday… so unfortunately I don’t get to write at my personal prime time as much as I’d like. I’m a morning person, so I like to get up and get stuff done in the morning, take an easy afternoon but still be productive and have a personal accomplishment (i.e. write something), and then take evenings off because that’s when my brain stops working.

Hyacinth: do you prefer to write angst or fluff?

Definitely angst. DEFINITELY angst. I live for character drama and hardship! A good ending to any story, in my opinion, is an ending the character(s) fought for.

Lilac: how’s your current wip going?

Ah! Good question. It’s starting to go well again! I’m getting to a place where I’m feeling… settled with it. I’m still only halfway to the finish line, but I’m at a point where I think I wouldn’t mind sharing it just to see if anyone else can connect to certain characters who have become quite real to me.

iris: do you prefer writing about a man or a woman character? why?

You know, I don’t have a preference! I enjoy writing both male and female characters. I think it just depends on whose perspective I want to tell the story from.

sunflower: what is the best feedback/compliment you’ve ever received regarding your writing?

I have received a lot of very lovely compliments from people, but the one that will always make me the weepiest is a review @finding–cat left for me many, many moons ago on the first chapter of This Christmas (I have mentioned this so many times, I probably sound like a broken record). I cried the first time I read it and then printed it out and put it up on the memento wall I had in my bedroom at the time so I could cry again every time I reread it. I was supremely nervous about sharing that story because it was a Christmas story that packed a little punch of angst and sadness and I wasn’t sure how well it would be received. But in one message, she told me how much she valued my writing and made me feel so validated, and her words made me feel like I could tell the story the way I intended without carrying the weight of wondering who would or would not enjoy it. What mattered most was that I was telling the story I wanted, and even better, someone I love very much had been moved by it, and that meant everything. I’ve learned a lot of great lessons from Cat. She’s kinda spesh.

daisy: would you ever consider a career in writing?

I answered this one already, but it’s an easy one to answer more than once. Yes. I’d love that very much. Who knows when, if ever, but if I could spend most of my days writing, I would be a very happy girl. 

(con’t)…a key thing i always remember about your writing is that one-shot you wrote with kendall from btr, the one in front of the fireplace, with the sexy times. i don’t think we had ever really talked at the time, but i read it and just loved it and found it so romantic and sexy. gah! it still sticks in my mind, and i always find it kind of funny because i had never spoken to you and i wasn’t even a fan of btr! nonetheless, i’ll never forget it!

Sweet Brianne. ‘tjaila’ was one of those pieces that I read and came out completely different from how I came in. It was powerfully and beautifully written and whenever I stop to think about what I would consider great writing - fanfiction or otherwise - it is always at the front of my mind.

OH MAN, Max and Kendall! I just had to go look at my writing page to remember the title of that one-shot, “The Morning After”. Wow, that seems so long ago. That was my first attempt at BTR fic, and I remember being so excited when I finished it because up until then, my writing had felt very hit and miss. I’d been stuck in such a rut since graduating and taking a break from JBFA, but when I finished that one it was like…ah, yes, this is it. That feeling I missed. 

8) Favorite trope to write.

I’m so horrible with tropes, haha. Like, do I write them? Probably. Do I know what they are? No. I’ve never really thought about it, I just…write what I Want to write. I know that I’m fond of writing about relationships, and I’m big on family ties - siblings and marriages and parents with kids. It’s my bread and butter.

13) How do you deal with writers block?

Try not to panic? Haha. I used to get so stressed out because I spent so long stuck in a rut, and my all-time fear is that at some point I’m going to fall back into it. But what I’ve learned is that you just kind of have to let it take its course. If you force yourself to write, you’re going to end up hating yourself for it, or greatly disliking the writing you produce for the sake of writing. Sometimes your mind just needs a break, and you have to let it happen. I feel like I wrote a super long post about this at some point, actually. Ooh, yeah, here it is.

33) Do you listen to music when you’re writing?

not really

i read that they're doing a tv movie to lead into a spinoff tv series....but what would the tv show even be about???
