a little goodbye...

I think this is the last time I’ll be logging onto this account. I’ve been distancing myself from this space and from fic for a while now and I think it’s time for me to say goodbye for good.

I just wanted to say one last thank you to everyone who has read my writing, from the very beginning to the last thing I posted, to everyone who’s taken the time to review, for all the messages I’ve received and friends I’ve made, for all the support I got when I was really struggling. I’ve had a blast writing and discovering my voice and having this blog and interacting with everyone and making friends that I now communicate with beyond this space has made that experience even better. I appreciate it so much.

I’m going to leave everything up and posted in case anyone finds themselves inspired to pick up an old salute drabble some day in the future. I know I might. I’ll be chilling on my personal blog in the meantime and you’re welcome to chat with me there.

I feel like a bunch of the issues in this community would be less of one if people just stopped using the word “clique”

#but that's just me #and don't say that clique doesn't have a negative connotation #it absolutely does

Every SINGLE time I hear rocket man or any of the other songs on the space playlist you made, I think of SO. That is one of my most favorite pieces of writing I've ever read, and not that it stuck with me more than any of your other writing because I love it all, but I swear I'm CONSTANTLY thinking of cara and harry because of the music I listen to. And I love them and it makes me happy, so thanks!!! for that

I still listen to that space playlist too, it might be my greatest creation. Like, space is just the coolest, so songs about space are naturally also going to be cool. But thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed space oddity and you’re still happily jamming out to space songs, that’s amazing :))

Okay *deep breath* I apologize because this ask is going to be long and I'm not really sure if you go on this blog often but I really wanted to say this. Many years ago, I read a tiny square in the corner of some magazine that mentioned One Direction's third place finish on X-Factor. A quick google search later and I was hooked. One Direction is something that I grew up with and love dearly. A little while into my time with the band, I discovered 1dff. And it was amazing.

I didn’t want to post the other asks you sent because they seemed very personal and I didn’t want to share your story with anyone without asking, but also because they were really inspiring to read. I know that I sought out fic for the same reason, to have a coping strategy when my own mental health issues were worsening, so the idea that my fics or my blog helped at all with your own coping is really touching to me. I feel really privileged that you let me into your life then in those small ways and that it may have made things a bit better. Thank you so much for your kind message and the lovely things you said, and for the well-wishes, it means so much to me and I’m going to keep those messages for myself, to help me when I’m the one that’s struggling. I'm ps that I've read Salute about 5 times since and god knows how many times for the drabbles, i could probably recite them from memory! ANYWAY. That post wasn't directed at you, it was directed at anons who bring this up every so often and start this whole whack of drama that results in nothing productive. I absolutely respect you sharing your opinion on the topic, as I did with mine

well, i appreciate that so thank you. but i still think these people are allowed to say how they feel. even if it makes us/you/me/anyone uncomfortable.

and a lot of those who disagree with the argument about there being cliques are blogs/writers i would consider popular and the ones who understand where anon is coming from are not. maybe that’s something to think about.

There is not a single person (that I know of) that purposely goes out of their way to make people not feel excluded or to ignore them or to diminish the value of their work in this community but making it seem like its some sort of conspiracy by calling it a “clique” and making the actions of that “clique” deliberate on the part of the members only perpetuates an argument and conversation that helps no one. No one starts in this community with instant friends and instant likes and reblogs and reads, it’s a work in progress and that looks different for everyone but making it seem like an effort of a certain “hierarchy” of people to be exclusionary doesn’t help either. It’s not fair, it makes people who might have friends in this community or followers feel like shit and doubt their actions and their connections, and it makes this whole community a lot less fun.

Maybe that’s something to think about.

Hey, I just wanted to wish you all the best with everything. I know how you feel with your writing, I couldn't write for years and really struggled with just the anxiety from NOT writing, but when I did, it was even worse because I just couldn't without feeling so bad. It became toxic. Letting myself take a break from it with no pressure of doing it was what helped me. I'm now finally at peace with my writing and do it for myself because I love it. So, good luck with things. And thank you. Xxx

That’s basically exactly how I feel. I know I just need to take a break and focus on the other things in my life that need sorting and maybe one day it’ll come back to me and I’ll finally write that spy novel I’ve had tucked away in the back of my head for years. But thank you so much for this message, it’s nice to know I’m not alone in my feelings. I really appreciate it :)

I know I'm just an anon, but I don't think you should give up on your writing. you are way way way too talented to stop and I really hope you don't. your stories have brought this community so much joy and I hope, even if you never post on here again, that you continue to write because it's really a true gift

This is so lovely, thank you so much for saying this. The thing is though, it’s not something I’m giving up like its my choice to not write, it’s something that actually brings me a lot of stress and makes my anxiety worse at this point. So I need a break from writing all together and that’s okay. And hopefully one day it won’t make me feel like that and I’ll be able to write for myself again and I’ll remember this message when I do so thank you.

ah yes, the december drabbles. I wrote those before salute really picked up and got noticed so I know they’ve flown under the radar for a lot of people. they were fun to write though so I hope you enjoy them :)

And yeah, sorry about that, but I’m not writing much of anything at all anymore. That’s just the way the world turns, I guess
