Hello~ I was wondering if you could write about Midorima and how he would react when his older s/o who's going to college comes to watch one of their games, even though she has tons of stuff to do with her school? (And his s/o is all supportive and fond of her younger boyfriend being so dedicated to basketball) Hope this is ok, but if not, that's fine too!! Keep up the good work 😊
a/n: Hi Cerila! Thank you so much for your kind words <3 I’ve decided to write a drabble for this, but I apologize if Shin-chan might seem a bit OOC. I was thinking about my boyfriend as I wrote this haha :’)
The sky outside was tinted a dark blue as your bedside clock ticked away, its small hand on the number 10. You were in your dorm room, finishing a paper that was due the next day. Beside you, a small can of coffee was present; you knew that this would be a rather long night. A small night light illuminated your desk as your fingers were busy typing away on your laptop when your phone suddenly chimed with a notification. Checking to see who it was, your face lit up when you saw it was from your boyfriend.
You had been dating Midorima for over a year now, with you being a year older than him. You had just recently entered university, while he was finishing his final year at Shuutoku High, the school you had gone to as well. Despite what some students had said about you dating the younger basketball ace, you were sure that this was something Midorima had wanted. It was he who had actually gone out of his way to supply you with your lucky oha asa item every day up until the day he confessed. You unplugged your phone from its charging cable and clicked on the messenger notification.
[shin bby <3: “Did you have your oha asa item for today?”]
You giggled a bit before typing back a response.
[“I had it with me, no worries”]
[“Aren’t you supposed to be heading home from practice?”]
Almost instantly, a reply came in.
[shin bby <3: “That’s why I’m only texting you now, nanodayo.]
[shin bby <3: “There’s that practice match against Seirin next week.]
Your lips formed a thin line when you realized you had forgotten about the match he had mentioned before. Due to how hectic university was, you had never gotten the time to watch him at one of his matches after you graduated. Thankfully, Midorima was understanding of your circumstances, but you couldn’t help but feel your heart sink at the thought of being unable to physically support him at what he did best.
[“I’m so sorry but I don’t think I’ll be able to make it :(“]
There was a pause on the other end when Midorima didn’t reply. You stared at the idle screen for a couple of minutes before placing your phone down and continuing to work on your paper. Was he pissed? Disappointed? A small part of you wondered if he was fed up with your lack of presence at his games. As you were starting a new paragraph, your phone chimed with a notification.
[shin bby <3: It’s okay.]
[shin bby <3: I understand how busy you are with university, nanodayo.]
A small smile graced your lips at his response. You sighed in relief before typing.
[“I’ll be sure to make it up to you soon <3”]
You shut off your laptop half an hour later after you had finished and proofread the assignment. Quickly sliding into bed, you made a mental note to definitely make it up to him soon.
It was the fourth quarter of the match and both schools were neck-at-neck at each other. The scoreboard flickered with a bright 92-94, with Seirin taking the lead. The match was only a few seconds away from ending before Midorima gained possession of the ball. Dribbling a bit, he dodged several blocks before shooting from the far side of the court. The score shot up to 95-94 as the whistle blared, signaling the end of the game as well as a win for Shuutoku.
As the teams were shaking each other’s hands, you went down the bleachers with a proud smile on your face. It was the first time in forever that you had seen your boyfriend play again, and you couldn’t help but feel mesmerized whenever he did so. Midorima was on one end of the court, wiping his face with his towel when you approached him with a tap on his shoulder. “Hey, baby.”
The green-haired male flinched in surprise before slipping on his glasses and blinking, making sure that he hadn’t seen a ghost. “______…?” Takao had taken notice of your presence, snickering and giving you a quick wave before leaving you two to talk. “S-Since when…?” A hint of pink dusted the point guard’s cheeks.
“Since the very beginning, Shintarou. I’m surprised you didn’t notice me cheering for you, you know,” You giggled, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. You then felt his strong arms wrap around your torso as his head buried itself into the crook of your neck, inhaling your scent. “Congratulations on winning, by the way; I nearly forgot how good my little Shinny was at basketball~”
“P-Please stop…” Midorima muttered, more heat rising to his face. His voice was muffled by how he further buried hid his face and his grip around you tightened. You kissed his temple lovingly, running a finger through his hair; you were simply elated that you had managed to catch him at a practice match, spare the number of things you had to do at campus tomorrow. He’d never admit it either, but his heart soared at the feeling of being able to hug you post-match, just like when you were still in high school.
Perhaps you’d try to make it to more of his matches next time.
