SO I just booked a spot in a three day Photography Workshop in the UK
with PhotoVoice to learn how to do participatory photo projects and use photography for advocacy and activism, and it was SO SO EXPENSIVE! Beyond the realm of what I feel comfortable paying for anything in life, but I feel like it's gonna be 100% worth it. They have such a cool methodology that deals with "the power and potential of photography as an empowering tool that is accessible, therapeutic, influential and communicative". AND like... I'm so into that. They just finished a project in Jordan where they worked with World Vision to run a project with a group of young Syrian refugees exploring their perspectives & experiences. PLUS the images are going to be showcased at a upcoming global summit - Ending Sexual Violence in Conflict, in London. Photography, just kicking ass... am I right?
I'm kinda super nervous for the workshop but, It's gonna be GREAT, and hopefully super rewarding, and will fill my little heart and head with ideas for participatory photo projects of my own!! EEEEK. STOKED!
