Page 10. --- Left Stolen Cars Where Easily Found - Says He Has Reformed ==== A self-reformed thief with a strongly developed conscience told in county criminal court yesterday of his attempts to avoid heaping undue misfortune on his victims.

David Vahey, serving 15 months on eight charges of breaking into Barrie garages and theft of tires and equipment, testified against Louis Singer of Toronto, charged with purchasing the stolen articles from Vahey.

Twenty-one tires, a tool box, and battery - the haul from three a break-ins - netted him only $80 when he sold them to Singer, Vahey said.

Vahey testified that he hitchhiked to Barrie on the three осcasions, and stole motor vehicles to carry the stolen property back with him. He told court he always abandoned the cars where they could be easily found, because he "did not want to inconvenience the garage operators nor be responsible for the drivers losing time."

"You didn't expect to get away with the crimes?" asked Defence Counsel E. J. Murphy. "I didn't figure anyone could get away with it," Vahey replied.

"Are you completely reformed now?"

"Yes," was the reply.
