There’s a rule at Mercedes-Benz: if it has four wheels, slap an AMG badge on it. While it’s less “slapping” and more tuning, tweaking, and generally making said car more insane, it still applies for pretty much every vehicle in the lineup. And the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe is the latest to go under the knife.
Let’s start from the top; the looks are dramatic, yet refined. The front end keeps in line with the current Mercedes-Benz design style. It’s more sophisticated than previous iterations, but still has enough vents and openings for you to indicate that it’s a serious performer on the track, or on the road.
In the back, things start to get a little more interesting. Imagine if the CLA was stretched and lost two doors. That’s sort of the look Mercedes went for with the new C63 Coupe. It resembles less of a coupe and more of a fastback similar to the current Mustang. Still pretty, nonetheless, with a sophsictatsd set of lines in the rear, starting with a carbon fiber lip spoiler and quad exhaust, because speed.
Now, let’s talk about what you’ve all been waiting for—horsepower. Under the hood is a snarling 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers 469 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of about 4.0 seconds. Opt for the even hotter S version, and you’re getting 503 horsepower, and a 0-60 mph time of about 3.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (boo!), and you’re only allowed a seven-speed AMG Speedshift gearbox. Sorry, no manual.
