Go Daddy is a a company that offers web hosting and domain registering services that was established in 1997 by Bob Parsons. It was formerly known as Jomax Technologies. But, it modified its name to Go Daddy in 1999 to make it more memorable to people. To quote Bob Parsons, they changed the name because it is simple to recall and can be funny for some people.

In 2001, Go Daddy was almost equal size as with its rivals, Dotster and eNom. In April 2005, it beaten the market shares of Network Solutions which was the number one domain registrar with regards to the total domain names registered.

Go Daddy, in 2007 to 2008, lobbied in favor of legislation that would freely track down crafty online pharmacies and exploitative child molesters. In March 2010, Go Daddy stopped registering .CN domains (China) because of huge amount of personal information asked before being able to register in that country. In September 2010, Go Daddy announced that is up for auction. However, they withdrawn from the auction few weeks later even if reports say that bids exceeded the asking price of $1.5 billion to $2 billion.

From its founding until now, Go Daddy reached more than 45 million domain names registered. It is currently the biggest ICANN-accredited registrar in the world. It is four times larger than its closest competitor.
