#4 bloody revolution or something for the wip challenge?
bloody revolution or something is a pre-dao au in which the fereldan elves rebel and a teenage tabris leads a civil war 'til Maric solidifies a treaty by offering his bastard younger son's hand in marriage. It's more about tab than alistair, but i really like this scene so have this:
The thing about being given to the Chantry for training is that the Chantry then becomes the entirety of oneâs world. There was no leaving, no real interaction with anyone who wasnât also in training or part of the Chantry. So while unrest may have been spreading throughout the entire country, little rumor of it actually made it into the Bournshire chantry.
So it was that, at age thirteen, Alistair found himself meeting his father for the first time with no idea why. The man was, well, intimidating. Just⌠standing there. All⌠kingly and⌠something.
âYou know who I am?â Maric asked.
âIs that a trick question?â Alistair responded and then braced for a smack from the revered mother that never came. Not only that, but the king actually seemed amused. And then it struck him that this was the king he was talking to, father or not. âUhâ your majesty, I mean.â
âNo, not a trick question. I understand you may harbor some resentment toward me. Perhaps you think I was ashamed, but know that was not the case. It was yourâ the hope was that you might lead a normal life, free of the trappings of royalty.â He paused, staring at some point on the wall. To Alistair it seemed the man couldnât stand to look at him for long, which rather negated his words.
âThatâs nice, but did you really come here just to tell me that? Becauseââ
âNo. No, of course not. I wishâ Unfortunately, circumstances have changed. There is unrest in Ferelden, increasingly in the south. It is more than I am willing to risk, to leave you here. I would like to bring you back with me. It will have its challenges, taking your place as prince, but you will be safe.â
That was usually the point in a nightmare where Alistair would look down and find himself naked.Â
Of course, he wasnât that lucky.
