Beyond Good and Evil in the Gospel of Judas

This lecture builds on controversial gnostic motifs in Transcendent Betrayal in the Gospel of Judas. By rebelling against one’s own false notions good and evil, the initiate recognizes and submits to divine will even when it is contentious, scandalous, and displeasing. Therefore, mystical revolutionaries transcend incipient beliefs and hypocritical sanctimony to perform that which is truly good, even when it is inconvenient and misunderstood.

With dreams of I° in the future, I went into this pagan festival looking for a deeper understanding of my path and hoping for an opportunity to gain gnosis through communication with my fellow Thelemites. Upon returning to civilization after a weekend in the woods, I feel like I've achieved these goals and even more. My baptism left me feeling purified, and publicly declaring my dedication to the Law and working toward my True Will in front of all of my friends and family just felt "right" and important in my life; the Gnostic Mass following immediately after was viewed in new eyes, and the journey through the Tree of Life undertaken by Babalon and Chaos to produce Baphomet felt very real for the first time in my life. The womb in me was inseminated with the seed of deeper understanding, and while the labor pains are hard, I am fully prepared to birth this Baphomet and raise this child to shape my slice of the Aeon into perfection.
