Mara’s ears twitched at the quick clicking of boot heels, and he flipped around, arms going behind his back in a bastardization of parade rest.
“What are you doing?” Mara can hear the raised eyebrow in the tone of Asha’s voice, and he can almost feel the hands settled on her hips.Â
“As you see, I am doing absolutely nothing. I’m standing. In front of your door. With my hands clasped properly behind my back.” Asha knows it’s a lie- Mara knows she knows it’s a lie. If he’d chosen to put in effort, it might have been believable. She frowns, unimpressed, but full of affection. Mara only grins in delight.
He moves to pocket something, and Asha’s eyes go to follow the movement before she gets an arm- and eye-full of warm brown hair and skin. Mara nuzzles her nose quickly before occupying himself with her lips, soft and insistent. Asha feels her eyes flutter closed, and the smile from his face threaten to spread to hers. She knows a distraction when she feels one, but she’s loathe to ruin his fun.
So she kisses him back, and almost forgets that whatever Mara is up to inevitably leads to trouble.
She’s pretty fond of his trouble, anyway.
