As I saw Ash's axe swing above my head, I had the sinking realisation that this was finally it. I'd never see District Two again. I'd never get to wrap my hand around the hilt of a sword again, I'd never see my father again. I closed my eyes as I prepared for the worst, but the strike never came. My eyes opening as I searched for Ash, the sickening sound of an axe cleaving through a skull echoing in my ears as I saw Peace fall. A silent tear streaking down my cheek at the sight of my fallen district partner, sending up a silent prayer of thanks for her presence in my life. Struggling to my feet as I saw Ash take aim at Link, watching him crumple to the floor before Ash fled.
Shit. I collapsed back on the ground, ripping the remnants of my pants so that I could inspect the ugly looking wound on my leg. My fingers shaking at the sight of that much blood as my stomach rolled. My glance flickering over to the groggy link before down at the wound, shaking a little as I glanced up at the sky.
"Please...for District Two...anything..." I call out into the darkness, watching as the faces of the Fallen obscure my vision. Glancing away at the sight of Peace, shaking a little at the failure and success of this ambush.
The Ball
I walk into the ballroom and am amazed by the way it looks. It looks beautiful once again, the Gamemakers really know how to decorate. I see Link talking to Lina and I decide that I will talk to him in a little. Across the room I see Gamemaker Aqua. I make my way over and smile at her.
After watching Peace storm off back to our floor, I attempted to calm down. Watching the other tributes mingling and chatting like they were old friends. Above the heads of some of the guests I spotted the Gamemakers. Now or never? Drawing in a deep breath, I moved across the floor before sweeping into a half bow my father had taught me. "Gamemakers..." I stood back up to my full height, ruffling my hair nervously. "Thank you for your hospitality... I'm sure if the games are anything like your ball we will be in for some surprises..."
