A Return to Glorieta
At this spot, we're atop the pass the separates the Pecos watershed from the Rio Grande. Prior to the railroad coming through in 1879, Union soldiers fought those of the Confederacy as the latter was trying to secure the state of New Mexico for their ends. The South did well in the battle, but could not hold the state in the end—due to supply lines.
