#global poor

I am guessing you just reached advantages of globalization in Econ 101. 

You know, the part where they start talking about advantages to global trade. How if every country produces what they are best at and then trades it globally we will all have better prices for goods. In turn, “Wealth will spread, more of the global poor will have stable incomes and be able to purchase goods at a better price.” 

But that isn’t how it actually works, that is how it works in an ideal situation.

In actuality, Corporations throughout the world exploit the global poor, by paying them little to nothing in order to produce products for western nations. Corporations use their ability to exploit their poverty in order to also justify lowering wages in the west as well. Corporations argue that they can just move all the jobs overseas/automate them away, thereby, we should take the meager wages that we are given. 

What most leftists are trying to do is produce as close to the ideal situation as possible, so that globalization benefits all of us, not just the wealthy and corporations.

We believe that globalization in a positive thing, we are not nationalists. But we also believe that we are increasingly speeding towards a workerless world. And when the jobs have dried up, what will be left is for the vast majority of the global population will exist solely in service to those wealthy few. Call it Neo-Feudalism, where most of the population will be serfs again. 

But even though this is our current trajectory, that does not mean it is our destiny. Leftists are fighting for the bottom 99.9% of the population worldwide to join together and demand that we have our human rights protected. Demand that we are able to eat and have clean water. To demand that we have healthcare. That those things are not dependent on whether or not we can work.  

Because someday, most of us won’t even be able to work, there will be no jobs left.
