The Creators Grace is one of Rosmei's two baihe titles (both by prolific author Ning Yuan). The main character Chi Yu is working to discover the circumstances of her sister Chi Li’s death and what role her sister’s ex Ran Jin might have had in it. All while trying to back the family energy company that her sister left to Ran Jin. Even if that means sabotaging the company’s efforts to gain mining rights to the moon (spearheaded by Ran Jin) and the company’s goal to create an underwater theme park.

The beginning of the story plays out like a drama or a mystery novel,with a crazy hook showing our main characters scheming against one another (mainly Chi Yu) before going back to the events leading up to it. I wasn’t fully invested until after the flash back where we get context for the mc’s actions and capabilities (their power over the business felt a bit hard to believe in the beginning) though much is still unknown by the end of volume one.

I started the story unsure of how well Chi Yu and Ran Jin’s dynamic was going to work for me given I’m not usually interested in family members ex stories. But I think this is one of the cases where the author does an excellent job showcasing the love interests appeal (in this case a strong suit wearing older sister type who is so self reliant while also so insecure and lonely because she won’t truly rely one anyone with a younger taller manipulative type who means her ill)But a past loving relationship twisted by death and misunderstanding and the change from one form of love to another is very interesting. Especially paired with Ran Jin’s willingness to sacrifice at her own cost even if it causes Chu Yi to despise her.

A few notes before spoilers. As of volume one there is no reference to government involvement of any government in mining the moon. Which did make suspension of disbelief difficult however, given censorship I’m not sure how much Ning Yuan could have included that. The scifi elements of this are on the lower end at this point of the story mainly they add to the mystery at this point. I did enjoy this and will order the rest of the volumes as they become available for preorder @ yiggybean. Spoilers below.
