grimm wakes in a field, as she usually does, the grass tickling her nose with scent and sensation. with a sneeze, she rolls to her feet, looking around and listening for conversation. there's the whispers from the grass and the chimes from dreams in the distance, but she's looking for one in particular.
with a mighty shake to free her coat of any grass, she trots onward, happily panting as she gets to the front gates of the palace. by now, she's known, and could conceivably climb over the fences if they were in the waking world. but things work differently here, so she instead waits to be let in, and then continues on her path.
she follows her nose through the gardens and courtyards, avoiding going inside at all costs. when she catches the scent she's looking for – ozone and florals and fruits and candy – she follows it, head down, nose to the path.
it's like this that she gets to the door that leads back into the throne room. it's locked, and she can't just phase through it, like she could on the mortal plane. so she lays down and whines, one paw morosely papping lightly at the door, though the whole door does rattle in its frame.

As she approaches the walls that border onto the great abyss that acts as a moat, the guards on duty at her preferred entrance see her and have already lowered down the drawbridge there for her. It isn't the main entrance and so it is lowered especially. The guard at the entrance bows his head in greeting to the great omen of Death, and frequent visitor, and steps from their post across the path to unclip the chain that had blocked the now clear path ahead. With a their arm spread, they gesture for her to cross.
At the other end, the great doors have been opened and guards step aside, once more giving a polite greeting to her as she passes through. From there, some people may pass her, but pay her little notice. She is a common feature and her parentage of Death means she has the privelidge of being able to explore most places within the circular palace. So long as she knows where she is going. It is very easy to get lost on the very many levels to this place.
When her nose guides her true, a gardener steps aside from the little side gate as she goes through, wishing her a good night and chuckling to herself to see Grimm again so soon. Though it was because of Grimm that this little back courtyard was actually maintained at all. Through it ran a path of jet paving stones, with beds of poppies, daffodils and chrysanthenums flanking it on either side, a few benches and picnic blankets set up should the great omen and royal aide only have a few moments together.
Neb had just received the king's copy of the meeting notes from the scribe, ready to be summarised and put into the agenda ahead of the follow-up meeting in a few days. They were about to set out the rest of the next few hours plans when the whines and scratches at Death's Door had them pause. Their gaze flickers towards the door as Hypnos was already stepping over to take the notes from them and nod towards it. They'd better answer.
Gracious of Hypnos' enthusiasm for their relationship, Nebulus gave his majesty a bow before drifting over and giving a nod to the guard to open the bulky door.
With a waft of flower scent from the gardens, the vision of their deathly love appears and laid down so solemnly.
"Oh I hope you haven't been waiting long. You had good timing today, his highness had just finished with the meeting." They murmur, floating out and now jogging lightly to the grass and sitting down, since this would better allow for her excited greeting and some time together.
The king had shooed them after all so a spontaneous break was to be factored into the schedule. Nowadays Nebulus was far more relaxed about those, now that they had their own personal reason for wanting one.
