Happy Sunday Peeps! I am super excited to share my latest news with you. I recently was invited to exhibit 11 of my 17 paintings in the Glitter Gals collection, at Vertigo Art Gallery, located in the Roosevelt Row Arts District, in Phoenix, AZ. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . This is such a great honor for me, and one of my goals that I set for myself to achieve before my next birthday. The owner of the gallery is an incredibly warm and generous person. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity, and to have this person come into my life at such a perfect time. . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . This is my very first experience exhibiting my work in a gallery. It’s interesting to me as I go through this process, that what I think is challenging in my paintings ends up being quiet free-flowing, and what I think should be free-flowing becomes quite challenging. For instance, in the case of my latest painting, Michele, I thought for sure I could easily create the image I wanted to with great familiarity. Only to discover that my references were not properly linked, and therefore, I was extremely challenged. In fact, I restructured the nose alone, at least 5 times. Although I finally was satisfied with the nose I ended up with, the painting wasn’t quite the image I was hoping for. However, instead, it was clear to me that the image was more reflective of a person I knew from my past. So, I went with that flow instead. Now, I’m pleased with the painting, but still need to try again to meet the image I wanted originally.😉 . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . Another challenge I discovered, but accepted, and actually find it quite interesting, is the fact that using metalic papers in my collage for a much lighter skin tone, doesn’t work as well. Once pouring medium is applied, it brings out all those textures and colors, which made the complexion a little blotchy. However, this piece is still a mixed-media collage. And all things considered, the textures and imperfections are what make each painting unique within itself, and yet somehow beautiful too. 😊 . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . In final, although not exact, this painting reminds me a lot of an old friend and co-worker, Michele @gaineygirl77. What do you think of this latest piece? The other day when I posted my painting, Sasha, I told you that I was working on an actual portrait request from a new friend I met through Instagram @justjharper. I’ve been painting away the last few days, and just finished one that I’m posting today, and will have another one ready in just a few days. The next few paintings are inspired by various celebrities, and high-profile beauties. The idea was not to create realistic paintings of these ladies, but to inspire originals of my own because of them. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 Introducing Jenn, she reminds me of a few different glamour gals, but specifically one. Who does she remind you of? My husband says she reminds him of my sister @lisachalymusic, and depending upon the angel you are facing when you look at her, she reminds him of @jlo. She reminds me a little of both, plus @natalieportman and a little like AJ. . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . Regardless, I’m pretty happy with the results of this latest glitter gal, mixed-media collage painting. Introducing Kiara, my latest painting, which marks the 12th painting in my experimental, mixed-media, collage painting series. Kiara is super special to me. There are minimal accessories, and the design is simple. However, the varying colors, hues of light and dark, and the purposeful areas of glitter, help give this painting a variety of looks and shimmer. Depending upon the lightening, Kiara’s appearance can change. This piece was also the hardest to photograph. The images I have posted do not do the painting justice by any means. To truly capture the beauty of Kiara, you have to view her in person. Nadia is the latest painting in the current series I’ve been working on. This one is very special to me, because I used actual fabric to create the scarf that is around her face. Also, if you were to look closely at the actual painting, or for some reason pull the scarf off, you would see a completed painting of Nadia’s face. It was so much fun creating this piece, and working with even more mediums to create the various effects and textures. Be sure to check-out the story behind painting Nadia.
