I quite enjoyed tonightās episode, although it was rather in spite of, not because of, the main cast storylines.Ā I found the foster child COTW to be quite interesting, in terms of not only the challenges of raising a teenager, but especially a fostered teenager.Ā I liked the motherās insistence that he was part of their family, although I believe itās far more common for a foster parent to take the fatherās view.Ā I have friends who foster a teenaged boy, and I am saddened to say that they donāt treat him the same as their own children, nor do they really consider him to be a part of their family.Ā He is a means to a financial end, and it triggers a maelstrom of emotions for me, none of them good.Ā (I will say, however, that the boy is taken care of, and in no way ill treated.Ā Heās just not āone of themā.)Ā Ergo, appreciating the storyline.Ā Especially the pre credit hook using the cutest kid ever!!!
In terms of the main cast, was great to see Connie, albeit in a cameo.Ā I also enjoy the reminders of the Holby folk, albeit via names mentioned on phones, but hey - I can be easily pleased!
Ethan is struggling to lead the ED.Ā Well, yes, we knew that.Ā He either had to stand down or get tough - check.Ā I think the best thing to come out of tonight was that having been shunned at work by Ethan, Alicia will now hopefully shuck her double agent cloak, and just commit to Rage in Resus instead of playing Ethan for a fool.Ā
Robyn and Glen.Ā Oh, dear god, Robyn, give it a rest!Ā Whilst I donāt want to diminish the pain she would have felt having been left at the altar, nor the fact that she had a tough time immediately after Charlotteās birth whilst Charlotte had to remain in NICU; to hear her constantly blathering on about being so alone is just utterly mendacious.Ā She had people around her all the time, people constantly checking in on her, and when Charlotte was discharged, she immediately moved in with Charlie and Duffy!Ā At what point did she struggle to cope?Ā Emotionally - possibly, but I donāt see that Glenās presence would have lessened the enormity of becoming a new mother, so constantly harping on to him about it is just getting tired.
