About that “blind” thingy... that’s actually something quite important to me. So you’re all welcome to add your opinion to this.
Sometimes, I find it frustrating in fanfictions when I read pining, because it feels so daaaaamn obvious like how could those characters (idk who I’m trying to fool, I read 99% Taekai so I’m talking about Taekai) actually not see the other’s feelings?!! How?! This is dumb!!
But one day, I unfortunately found myself in the main-character-situation & once I realized what had happened, it was like an epiphany!! I was really that dumb blind idiot who hadn’t a single clue! (I still never have a single clue when those things happen, it gives me anxiety orz) This actually happens to people! It isn’t a myth! I think you can tell people are blind when you’re on the other side...
Still, I think when writing, pining is an art. You have to do it just right so it’s not gonna be boring for the reader who knows & sees everything. So, as someone who lives in the sole purpose of writing pining, I’m always a bit afraid of this, you see? When does it stops looking real & when does it become unrealistic or even frustrating for a reader?
Thus, if I ever cross the line of boredom or frustration, I hope there will be someone to tell me seriously “Moony, this is too much.”
But here, actually... I wouldn’t call them blind. They’re kinda aware of the thing... I mean, it would be excessively dumb of Jongin to not understand Taemin’s feelings... I’d like to convey his slight fear of being “just his favorite idol” to Taemin, but that’s difficult in such a format tbh. That can also seem pretty stupid of him, but considering that he sees all of his fans constantly telling him how much they love him, I think it’s kind of natural that he goes through this phase of “does he love me or is he in love with me?”. That’s the tricky question Jongin is trying to figure out.
On the other hand, Taemin sees the flirting, but he knows it would be difficult for Jongin to admit word for word that he’s gay & for him, I think it’s mostly this choking fear of being wrong, as he told Jonghyun. It’s difficult to see things as they are because he’s still EXO Kai’s fanboy & he doesn’t want to understand things wrongly just because he wants Jongin to love him back, you know. If he were to be wrong, that would be devastating for his little heart.
So, this is it. I hope this is understandable. I kinda understand if you wrote this question in the heat of the moment x) but I’m actually curious to know about that “is it realistic or annoying?” part.
