Now you’re probably wondering, why have I taken a photo of a car park, and why have I posted this under History’s Vikings tag?
Because this is a car park on the island of Giske in Norway. Â Underneath this car park was discovered the remains of a holding from Viking times, a holding that turned out to belong to Rollo, Viking Chief and eventual Duke of Normandy, whose great great great (lots of greats) grandson called William became William The Bastard to the English whom he conquered in the famous battle in 1066 placing himself on the throne of England.
But despite that I can hear Athelstan laughing away from heaven, because this car park belongs to this:
A church! A church was built next to the real Rollo’s ancient home and they tarmacked over it to build a car park for it!
