Alright, first I apologize for my inability to figure out how to use tumblr on a phone, this will have to do

But yeah, my stepsisters' dad was a total piece of trash and Bravo has made a show about him mostly focusing on his relationship with his last wife staring Connie Britton and Eric Bana called Dirty John. It was also a podcast first, about a year ago. I was pretty baffled just by the podcast part. But now this piece of crap who was a background figure in my life since I was like 12 or 13 is being exposed to the world and I enjoy that. 

I actually just found out recently that he tried to get a rise out of my dad by threatening me and my sister online. Sick fuck actually found my sister's facebook and posted a picture of her to add some credibility tk his threats. He also said things not worth repeating about her, and my dad, and my stepmom. He even tried impersonating my mom to trash talk my dad. 

I would also go!

You should watch it when you get the chance!  It’s technically only available in the UK right now on ITV’s website, but there are ways; and then it’s coming to the US early next year, I think.

I’m a quarter Jewish, and all my life I was told that side of the family came from Poland, but then I found their Ellis Island papers and they said RUSSIA??? It was a disputed border town, apparently, and if I were a betting man I’d say it’s probably where Balarus is now. Before my great-grandpa immigrated, he had such a great Eastern European last name, but it got shortened. Alas.

On my mom’s side, I have a great-grandpa who was killed when a moonshine run went bad during Prohibition. He was killed in front of my grandpa, too, who was just a kid at the time, so that’s messed up.

My mom’s sister met her husband at a party. No one would dance with her, so she went, “Fuck it, I’ll dance with a cat,” and for some reason she was drinking pICKLE JUICE???? And my uncle saw this lady on the dance floor with a cat drinking vinegar water and went “.... her. I want to marry her.” And they’ve been together 30 years.

My grandma taught me to make pecan pie, which is my very favorite of all pies, and for the longest time it was the only thing I could cook. It’s still my favorite.

Hot and sour! My mom started modifying the recipe for me when I went vegetarian as a kid.

Locust: What was your favorite book as a child?

I read the Animorphs series OBSESSIVELY. I finally went back and finished the series a few years ago, and yep, just as heartbreaking as I remember.

Azalea: What's a movie you cried while watching? 

Return of the King. I cried like a child during Frodo’s goodbyes. (I also cried after watching The Patriot, but that was because it gave me a full-blown panic attack, so no, I don’t recommend that one)

Oh man CAN I

First of all it was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, a Tony winner who was nominated for a Pulitzer for his first show, In The Heights. He’s Puerto Rican, and his work has a heavy focus on the contributions of immigrants- something he never lets us forget Hamilton was. It’s an immigrant’s story, about a boy who came from literally nothing (he was born in the Caribbean, his parents weren’t married, his father left when he was young, and his mother died a few years later) to go on to become one of the founding fathers.

And Lin-Manuel deliberately made almost the entire cast PoC. He’s said it’s the story of America then, told by the people of America now, and if anyone in the future ever puts it on with a cast that actually looks historically accurate, they have hugely missed the point. The exception is King George, who was specifically cast as white. Lin-Manuel was not even fucking around- where lots of shows with a huge cast of PoC have the Identifiable White Savior for a white audience to relate to, he cast Jonathon Groff to be the Comic Relief Villain. He turns tropes on their head and it’s wonderful.

Also, the music is predominately hip-hop, rap, and r&b. He put a lot of thought into the musical styles he gave each character- the progressive revolutionaries rap their way through the war, while the ones in favor of the status quo sing in older, jazzier styles. (And then there’s King George, who sounds different than everyone else- he sings in the style of 60′s British Invasion pop. It’s grand.)

And then there’s just how good the writing is. He based the show on a 700 page biography of Alexander Hamilton, and he actually worked pretty closely with the book’s author to make sure he was doing Hamilton’s story justice, even when he took some liberties with the timeline so the show flows well. The author was astonished by Lin-Manuel’s work- he played the opening song for him, and Chernow was like, “Well, goddamn, he just accurately summed up the first forty pages of my book in four minutes.”

It’s also got some great female characters, though Lin-Manuel had less to work with there, since there’s less known about the Schuyler sisters. But he manages to give them agency anyway- he even turns the lack of information on one of them into a deliberate choice on her part.

(Also, if nothing else, it delights me to imagine Thomas Jefferson rolling over in his fucking grave with the knowledge that he’s being played on Broadway by a black man. Fucking DEAL WITH IT, Thomas.)

Nearly the entire show is sung-through, as well. So if you listen to the cast album you’ll be able to follow the plot with no trouble, because it’s all there.
