Talia and I working on fitting a muslin in our studio. Our dress form was hand made in New Jersey by Wolf form company. She still needs a name, I’m taking suggestions!

Meet Talia! (right) Talia helps me with pattern making and running the studio. We met in college at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  It’s nice to work with friends, especially when they’re super talented!

I like to have cheerful things close by when I’m working. This is the shelf above my desk. I bought the sparkly tassels at Mercado San Camilo in Arequipa, Peru. They help keep morale high when I’m going through a swamped email inbox or making tech packs (my favorite tasks! JK). The fluffy alpacas are from the hand craft market in Arequipa, Peru. I bought the vintage fruit book plates at the Santa Monica Airport flea market. Lisa Rupp made the floral print. The small ceramic alpaca is by @monicatramos

This is a bulky gauge knitting machine I use with chunkier yarns. The vintage poster behind me is from a German home economics class. It shows how to mend things properly!

The first thing I see when I walk into my studio is this rack of clothes, a mix of samples, works in progress, and pieces I’ve made in the past that we are working from now for inspiration. I love laying my fresh eyes on the clothing first thing when I arrive in the morning. I get a better feel for my gut reaction to the piece I’m working on when I see it unexpectedly after not seeing it for at least a couple hours. You can’t avoid that type of confrontation when you have the rack of clothes front and center!
