@this-is-izy you said you wanted to see my quilt when it was finished and now it is!!! Messily edited my niblingâs name out of the quilt tag on the back but otherwise this is what it looks like.
There are a ton of mistakes here but tbh I am so dang proud of this as my first pieced crib quilt :)
If we count the date I planned this quilt as the start of âmakingâ it, my second Nibling Quilt comes out to an even one-month project.
My piecing is noticeably better with this one than the last, though I also accidentally sewed ONE purple HST near the âbottomâ of the quilt inside-out and didnât even notice until the whole thing had been quilted. Might reinforce that seam with some thread for the sake of security.
Fabric is Geo Bright Batiks by Robert Kaufman, which I had on hand as both a charm pack and a jelly roll. The quilt top is the traditional âjewel boxâ pattern, and the quilt back is Riley Blakeâs Pre-Cut Party (which youâll notice I failed to align properly but. Eh. Whatever lol)

If I wanted to make a "just the essentials" quilting kit for someone who has repeatedly expressed interest in learning quilting, but has shown they will never get things for themselves, what should I include in the kit?

Nobody understands how much I love artists, and that means artists of any kind. I love the performers, the writers, the painters, the knitters, all of them. If you make something I adore your skill and dedication, I mean it.
Whenever I see or hear a piece of art itâs like I have to take a pause and admire it. Itâs like the first bloom of spring or first snow of winter. Sure, some of it seems unremarkable but in my eyes I see the love and dedication hidden between the lines, stitches, notes and steps.
Art isnât easy, itâs so incredibly hard and takes large amounts of time, but those who take part in it no matter their skill level are worthy artists in my eyes. So, keep creating, while some may look down on you thereâs also someone out there who will look at your art with awe filled eyes.
Artists are the people that make life remarkable in my opinion, the ones who since as long as I can remember left the most impact on my life.

âOf Salt and Spiritâ Celebrates the Legacy of Black Southern Quilters
You may have heard of the remarkable quilters of Geeâs Bend, but do you know about the Crossroads Quilters, like Gustina Atlas? Or Hystercine Rankin? Mary Mayfair Matthews? Youâre in luck if you have a chance to visit Of Salt and Spirit: Black Quilters in the American South at the Mississippi Museum of Art, which shines a light on dozens of incredible Black Southern quilters and takes a celebratory approach to showcasing their myriad styles and techniques.
