Can I jump on the Westallen marriage growth love train for a sec? I really appreciate where they are in the portrayal of their marriage at this point in the show. Theyāve found a way to oscillate between these huge, storybook type love declarations (āour love is as strong as the lightning blot that struck meā) and these mundane check-inās over morning coffee, without any love declaring or overt romance and make it all feel natural, authentic and not ... boring. Most shows just donāt have this trajectory; From friends, to courtship, to dating, to marriage, and then to several more years of healthy marriage. Most shows donāt even dare try. They either drag the courtship on as long as they can so they never have to get to the long term part, or panic and push things into turmoil as soon as they move on from the honeymoon phase because they fear the mundanity of marriage. So I get why people get stressed when they donāt see those big overt romantic moments at ever interaction. Weāve been primed to need them in order to affirm a relationship. And thatās all because itās way harder than I should be to see natural evolution of long term healthy relationships on TV. Which is why itās something I will give The Flashh credit for for breaking. I have never been so sure of the stability of a television relationship as I am with Westallen. Reading these messages of concern keeps pulling me back to Joeās metaphor last season about marriage being like a tree. The fact that it was written for the show, feels reflective to me of how the writers actually view Westallenās relationship when writing itās evolution season to season. And I personally find that really reassuring.
I completely agree with everything you said here! This is exactly how I feel, and I love that you brought up Joeās tree metaphor, because thatās really indicative as to how marriages grow and how married people grow together, and itās definitely how the writers view Westallenās relationship and how they have evolved and grown together each season. And I agree completely: that is really reassuring.Ā
Plus you bring up a super important point about expecting those overt romantic moments at every turn, because of the nature of television relationships. But the difference is that The Flash has always bucked the trend, so to speak, by focusing on Westallenās story as a couple and showcasing the story of their marriage when they get married: because at the end of the day, this is the story of the evolution of a healthy, loving relationship between two people, and itās so rare to see a show just explore a relationship long-term like this, so I think for me, I really love, for example, how the narrative is once again showing us how Barry and Iris have grown together this season. I love being so assured in the steadfastness and stability of Barry and Iris, and so for me, as viewer, at this point in the narrative, I love seeing the maturity, growth, and supportiveness displayed in their scenes together.

Reading your last two messages I just assumed you were American until you said you weren't! You explained American politics than I could of of any other country lol (I mean not really lol thats kinda sad and way too common in the US tbh). But I can confirm, as an american, that there is nothing the president could have legally done to Taylor for the post. The "come after you" was more about public verbal attack like you said.
haha yeahh i mean, itās american politics but trump DOES affect canada - iām a business major so looking at stocks, nafta, etc. but tbh i donāt know in detail about american politics nor the current senators sdfhjsk
Omg that sent before I could ask my question. Which is super important.. What is your favorite show youāre watching right now?
Ha, no worries!
This is a super important question, I agree. Iād have to say Schittās Creek. Itās pretty much all Iāve been watching lately and Iām so incredibly excited for the new season in a few days!
I really hope itās not āNoraā that they have when they inevitably have a kid. That arch feels like it should end where it did. I appreciate that they have (at least somewhat) addressed the emotional blowback for Barry and Iris but thatās all I think Nora should be from here on out. Iām not a fan of the idea of Westallen having a girl, naming her Nora and and acting as though sheāll grow to be the 30 y/o they knew. Doesnāt sit right with me.
I completely agree: I also really hope itās not āNoraā in that sense, and I donāt think itās going to be Nora, as in the Nora we knew in season 5, because she had her arc, however unsatisfying it was. She was erased from existence, because her timeline was erased, so any child Barry and Iris subsequently have canāt possibly be Nora. I guess Iām just wondering if theyāre going to have just one child (whom theyāll name Nora, but who obviously wonāt be that Nora) or the Tornado Twins. I really want them to have twins, but also you bring up a really good point, and this is something that has bothered me too: the idea that if Westallen have a girl, name her Nora, they would see her as the same Nora they knew, even though that Nora honestly can no longer exist no matter what. I think part of the problem with how the show handled Barry and Iris grieving Nora in season 6 is that they kept holding onto the notion that theyād have Nora again. And the show didnāt really deal with that, because in all honesty, I feel like Barry and Irisās grieving process had to at some point include them accepting that their child died. Sheās never coming back, because this is a whole new timeline. That Nora... that child, she canāt possibly exist. And Iris expresses confusion over this in the season 6 premiere, and I wanted them to really deepen that sentiment which she expresses to Cecile in the hospital. But the show never does, and perhaps them honoring that Nora with her jacket was the showās way of conveying that Barry and Iris have accepted their daughter died, but it was never made completely clear.
Which is why I think itās healthier for them to have the Tornado Twins, because I think, even if they name the twins Nora and Don (letās say), itās clear that for Barry and Iris, they had three children. Their first child died, which obviously is immensely traumatic. Nora/Dawn and Don are their second and third children, and I think itās important for them to have a fresh start when it comes to parenting, because they deserve a very happy and loving parenthood, raising the twins.Ā
