fun fact! gilly found a scholar soul stone while splashing around in the waters around camp bronze lake! he just thinks its a shiny rock, and the fairy that showed up immediately afterwards is entirely coincidental.

I THINK that fourchenault and ameliance were very good friends with gilly's parents, and worried greatly about them when they never returned to old sharlayan, and upon meeting ameliance for the first time she knew immediately that he was their friends' son. she answers his questions about his parents and tells him stories about them, and ultimately all but adopts him
GILLY LORE SO I DON'T FORGET IT
gilly's parents were sharlayan and lived in idyllshire when it was still a sharlayan colony, but when the exodus happened, either his mother was pregnant and almost due so they decided to stay behind for a while, or they stayed behind because of some research/experiment that couldn't be moved/taken with them (haven't.... decided which yet.... lmao)
anyway, by the time the first of the goblins and treasure hunters arrive in idyllshire, Something Has Happened to mama and papa shortstep, and so all they find is this feral potato child, maybe five years old, who's been fending for himself (with some help from a local witch who tried to take him in... but he bit her, so now she drops off food every once in a while and shakes her staff at him).
the gobbies were like hell yeah, free kid! and now gilly lives in indyllshire with his goblin fam and with very little memory of his birth parents. also he apologized to master matoya but his baby teeth were SHARP and so she keeps him at staff-length at all times, just in case.
