Pairings; Jensen Ackles x girlfriend!reader
Genre & Warnings; Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance, grief, loss, emotional heaviness, mentions of death
Summary: After losing the man she thought she’d marry, Y/N struggles with grief while loving Jensen Ackles. Though haunted by her past, Jensen never leaves — because real love means staying, even when it hurts.
A/N: Recently after a breakup, it's been making me think about all the relationships that ended in my past. It made me think of my ex boyfriend from high-school, Jamie. He was a sweet, kind-hearted guy. The greatest I ever had. Until he started getting really depressed and didn't talk to me. He ended up killing himself three months later and I will never forget about it. After that, I kind of got into relationship after relationship, not knowing how to deal with such loss. I've never felt like that before, I hated it. It was my worst nightmare come true. But I eventually was able to figure it out. But seeing and hearing songs like these, they break my heart that people had to go through the same thing that I did. It's been three years since then, I think that I've healed well from it, but only time will tell.

The house is quiet. Too quiet.
Y/N sits curled up on the edge of the bed, her knees pulled into her chest, eyes fixed on nothing. Jensen watches her from the doorway, his heart breaking in silence. He knows where she’s gone — not here, not with him. Somewhere else. Somewhere she can’t return to.
Her fingers twist the chain around her neck, the one with the ring that isn’t his.
Jensen steps inside, careful not to startle her. “You should try to sleep,” he whispers.
She shakes her head, eyes glassy. “I can’t. Every time I close my eyes, it’s him. I still see his face.” Her voice cracks, her chest heaving with the weight she’s been carrying for years. “I still hear him. I thought I’d marry him, Jensen. I thought that was my life.”
The words slice through him, but he doesn’t flinch. He just kneels in front of her, taking her trembling hands in his. “I know,” he says, and he means it. “I know.”
She pulls away, almost violently, like she can’t stand the gentleness. “It’s not fair to you. I’m with you, but half the time it feels like I’m not even here. I’m still—” Her throat closes, the sob ripping its way out. “I’m still with him.”
Jensen’s chest tightens, but he doesn’t move. He doesn’t leave.
“I love you,” he says softly, fiercely, like the truth might tether her back to him. “Even if part of you will always belong to him. Even if you wake up from dreams where it’s not my name you’re saying. I love you.”
Her body shakes with grief, with guilt, with the hollow ache of loss that never leaves. She buries her face in her hands. “Why do you stay?” The words are broken, desperate. “Why do you keep loving me when I can’t give you all of me? When I’m not whole?”
He reaches up, prying her hands away just enough to press his forehead to hers. His voice is steady, even as his eyes burn. “Because love isn’t about getting all of you, Y/N. It’s about holding onto the pieces you can give. It’s about staying when it hurts. And I’ll stay. Always.”
Her tears fall against his skin, hot and endless. And Jensen just holds her, his arms strong even when she feels like nothing but fragments.
The bed is still too big. The silence still too loud. The grief still too deep.
But Jensen doesn’t leave.
Because he loves her. Because she loves him. Because some wounds never close — and some people stay anyway.
